It's nice to have them, but it's really more of min-maxing like @Aggraphine mentioned. They're actually a lot easier to obtain post-Phantom forest re-work than they were before if you can handle the Screen effects.

Personally I think it's always good to start with an explorer class to get a feel of the game, then branch off into other classes to find a main/legion/linkskills.

If you already have the quest in progress, you should be able to complete it by talking to Amos the Strong at "Amos' Training Ground".
If you're attempting to accept the quest, Ames was only located in Amoria which is now inaccessible.
Highly recommend using youtube guides as mentioned above. Practice makes perfect so don't give up!
