About Me
Beast Tamer main, 210+, Elysium. I play the stuff nobody else play... and then complain on why its hasn't been updated since launch! (I do love Monad). I hope Nexon will fix the game soon.

Wouldn't it make sense to make the game less meso dependent then? If people are able to get everything they want simply by playing then less people will be buying mesos which means less hackers as its becoming less and less profitable for them. Kind of unfortunate for us as its the Korean devs who decide the direction the game takes.

You have the same problem here. If you remove the dependence on mesos you have to replace it with something else.
You could go the route of Arcane Symbols or Genesis Weapons, but there are problems being expressed with these types of items too.
Mainly in that the game requires a huge time sink for these so multiple characters becomes extremely taxing.
So long as there's the ability to trade, there will be the ability to sell items related to powering up your character.
Unless they make each item related to powering up account or character bound (aka: Reboot) then these types of hackers will exist.
Gold sellers plague every MMO to some degree, some are just more dependent on such currencies or items that makes it more worth while.

It's not exactly an easy thing to combat as it requires core changes to the way a game works. (Again, see Reboot)
From what I know about KMS, they don't have nearly as many problems as we do. So in their eyes, it could be our fault for letting it get this bad.
It's an extremely complex issue that has no clear cut solution that I can see.

I believe it is GMS fault for letting it become this bad. KMS and GMS are both the same game to a degree. If KMS doesn't have any significant issues (and looking at their server traffic I believe they don't) then its GMS fault, either they are doing something wrong or not doing something at all, but then again different regions have different issues and what works on KMS might not be working here. And while gold sellers are something any MMO has I don't think I've ever played or seen one that has it so bad as GMS does.

Nope, and we, the legit players, are the only ones who suffer.

I like that they at least bring some content to make the game less of a KMS clone but if they are not going to bother updating it then whats the point?

But we have to ask ourselves, why does it need to be less of a KMS clone? What's wrong with KMS?
Usually people get angry when a game is different from the origin game after localization, why is MapleStory any different?
When a game is localized once it's not as big of a deal to change some programming.
But when that game is constantly updated this is just asking for trouble.
Seeing as the Korean team handles GMS now as well, I don't see why they don't just dedicate a patch season to making the non-KMS content part of KMS.
It'll be taxing on the programming team to re-write a lot of the code, but from a design process most of the work is done. It just needs to be re-balanced.
The alternative is that they continue to slowly cut all non-KMS content until we have a 1:1 copy with tweaked variables.

There isn't a problem with GMS being a 1:1 clone of KMS but I get why the dev team would make some Global Exclusive content, to make things interesting for people who play this version just like KMS gets their own unique stuff from time to time. If what you say is true and the Korean team is the one who handles GMS in its entirety then yes, keeping all the non-KMS content would be taxing. But if the GMS team only handles localization and thats the reason why we are always behind schedule compared to KMS then I'm sure that in the middle of all the translation effort (which they still fail to do sometimes) they could make sure the other exclusive content is up to date and bugtested (assuming they bugtest anything at all).

Would be a shame if we lost all those areas that KMS doesn't have like Zipangu/Mushroom Shrine, Alishan, content like the Masteria and Monad blockbusters, and the Sengoku classes and bosses, Jett and Beast Tamer all due because the dev team couldn't be bothered to keep up with what they added on top of what KMS made.

This thread is a fantastic display of how disused and abandoned "gms-exclusive" content is. Add to this the one guy who's actually doing alishan and you start to wonder "why does gms even bother with their own exclusive content?"

If only the devs actually bothered on working on stuff they bring from non-KMS we wouldn't be having any problems. Playing a non-KMS class? Don't expect any revamps and expect your character to remain broken and unusable for years-time. Going to a non-KMS area? Don't expect a fair game, expect useless outdated equipment, strange programming quirks and the area remaining empty from the moment it releases.

I like that they at least bring some content to make the game less of a KMS clone but if they are not going to bother updating it then whats the point?

Also has GMS ever done anything new themselves? Jett was a clone of Dragon Warrior/Zen for the longest time and thats the only thing I've seen that has been sort of produced by GMS.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but good luck finding eboss drops in the auction house that didn't come from a bot.

True, but if they have no way to convert mesos back into cash after that, it's all the same.
The idea is to cut them off from their end goal, actual currency.
So long as the game is profitable, they won't stop.

Of course "gold sellers" aren't the only ones hacking, but they're probably the majority.

That's definitely true. All the "anti-bot" measures in the world won't do a damn thing about it so long as it's profitable to them.

  • What music do you listen to while playing maple?

I usually just listen to the game music and sounds so I can keep track of what I'm doing. When I'm doing some seriously long grinding I may put some full game streams on Youtube or listen to a random song of the bunch of OSTs I have.
