Freedom of speech

Hello there.

Before I begin, I'd like to copy and paste and explain the definition of Free Speech.

Freedom of speech is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or a community to articulate their opinions and ideas without fear of government retaliation, censorship, or sanction.

Recently a certain Moderator has been giving me "warnings", simply because I disagree with her opinions and told her that, even though she is a Moderator, it does not mean she can do whatever she wants, and yet, after I told her that, she literally closed the thread (not even my thread, which is completely unfair to the one who made that thread from the first place) and gave me a warning, telling me I'm disagree with others and because of that, having conflicts with them (other members), which is completely wrong, I did not "attack" (as she says) anyone, I simply explained them why (in my opinion) they are wrong and why (in my opinion) i am right, and that's it.

So basically, I believe that the only reason she blocked the (not my) thread, was only cus, maybe... I kinda pissed her off that I'm disagree with her and that I told her, straight to the point, that just cus she's a moderator, it does not mean that she can do whatever she wants and play with me, I'm a human being too and I have my rights.

Now let me explain something, I'm now not talking about forums anymore, nor internet, not talking about anything but just talking in general.

in North Korea, there are many "rules", such as "you're not allowing to drive a car" (this is actually a real rule in North Korea)
So if someone is driving a car and a cop or soldier see him, they'll take him to jail right away, why? because he broke the law, and it doesn't matter how hard he'll scream that "how can it be? driving a car is totally normal and fine", it'd be useless and they'd still put him in jail, why? cus that's a rule in North Korea, right? yes but....
That's still 100% wrong, that kind of "rule" doesn't even make any sense, that's not a rule but a dictatorship.
Real rules are simple and logical things such as, "do not kill, steal, etc" but a "rule" that won't let anyone drive a car? no no that's definitely not a rule but a complete dictatorship.
Just because a "rule" is a "rule", it doesn't mean that it's a... let's call it a real rule, it could be showin as a "rule" but in reality, behind the scenes, it's a dictatorship.

The conclusion is very simple, in North Korea, cops and soldiers won't tell you that it's a dictatorshop (it's already clear, though people won't dare to talk about it because they know that they can go to jail because of that, or even worse....), they'd just tell you that you broke the rule (which is, again, not really a rule but a complete dictatorship and 100% wrong) and then they'd take you to jail, and... this is at best, in other cases they can shoot you on the spot....

Free speech just means you can't be arrested for what you say. It doesn't mean you don't face consequences for your words. In the case of this forum, this means you follow the rules of the forum to the discretion of the moderators.
In fact, to paraphrase a paraphrase of something someone said, free speech is ultimately the worst possible defense, as you're stating that the only benefit your opinion has is that it's not literally illegal to say it.

After reviewing your comment, here's what happened:
    • Ariel politely reminded users to remain civil on the forums
    • You derailed the thread to talk about how moderators are not above normal users and are "still bound by the law" (whatever that has to do with anything)
    • Ariel closed the thread because you and several other users chose to attack people who disagreed with you instead of being civil (as was politely requested)

    Ariel's comment on the matter
    Your comment on the matter

While I, personally, might not have locked the thread itself out of personal preference, I can find absolutely nothing wrong with the action. Ariel was quite polite, and you were the instigator in this matter.

This thread was made to call out a moderator, for no reason other than to complain about a locked thread, and possibly to bait users into an argument about free speech.
    Close reasons:
    • Flame baiting
    • "Calling out" a moderator over a thread lock

In addition to what Neospector said, I'd like to specifically address the example you are giving.

You don't seem to understand the distinction between a country and a private establishment, and therefore between "dictatorship" and "rules".

Private establishments can make any rule they want as long as it's not expressly illegal. If we take your "no driving cars" example, it's a perfectly acceptable rule on a golf course, on a private beach, or even at a race track (if you're not a participant in the race).
Bowling alleys won't let you wear your regular shoes in the playing area. Swimming pools don't allow wearing long hair loose in the water. Libraries kick you out for making noise. Movie theaters won't let you bring in food from outside. Restaurants require that you wear shirt and shoes to get service. And so on and so forth. Rules that would be absurd anywhere else, and even "tyrannical" if enacted by a government, are perfectly acceptable and even essential to the proper functioning of the establishment that made those rules.
As long as you go in of your own free will, and are free to leave if you so desire, it's not a "dictatorship".

These forums are private property. Nexon owns them and as such is free to make any rules it wants regarding what is and isn't allowed to be said, and in what way it is or isn't allowed. And the rules say to respect others and their opinions, even if you disagree. It's not even an unusual rule. Most establishments will have you escorted out if you're excessively rude to other patrons or the staff.

There are ways of expressing disagreement without insulting or flaming others. Try to use them in the future.
