Character deletion and burning event

So I make a name for my character. I don't like the name, but it worked and I can't go back, so the character has been created. I choose not to activate the burn since I want to delete the character anyways. I try and delete the character, but there is a 24 hour timer, even though he is only a lvl 1 beginner. I figure, alright I'll play him anyways then. But now I can't make him a burning character, and so I'll have to wait 24 hours. I don't understand how this game is still so poorly optimized and flawed after so many years.
