Afterlands Land Of Riches Unable To Pick Up Ben

In the Land of Riches location in the Afterlands, my character is unable to pick up the NPC Ben. The quest involves picking him up, moving to a location outside of the castle where is treasure is, and placing him down. My character picked him up and went over to the location where he should be placed, but he disappeared. I found that he reappeared inside the castle, where his appearance is slightly altered in that he is smaller, his eyes are closed, and he is sideways. I am unable to interact with him in any way, whether by attempting to talk to him or pick him up.
