'The Missing Hero' quest cannot be completed

The questchain 'The Missing Hero' is stuck in my quest log, it cannot be completed or forfeited. I received the item 'Nine Spirit's Egg' from Horntail. I went to Kumo to start the first part of the quest (Hero's Mark). Then I went to Raul the Knight to start the second part (Dragon Squad's Mission), and went to the map 'Below the Dangerous Nest' and dropped the egg on the nest. I then fell out of the map and cannot reenter as I no longer have the egg. When I forfeit the quest, 'The Missing Hero' is stuck in my quest log and shows the first part as completed, I can start the second part with Raul again. However, the Nine Spirit's Egg no longer drops from Horntail, so I cannot reenter the relevant map to complete the quest chain.
