So I just finished watching chuunibyou, pretty good, would watch again. Got me thinking though, isn't religion sort of like that? I mean you have people like Rikka who wears an eyepatch and religious people also wear things like crosses, or turbans, or yamakas. And priests or gurus whatever sometimes act like they have supernatural powers with their holy water and chakras and they wear robes. Similar to Mori Summer for most religions. I'm not saying religious people are delusional, maybe some are, but I'm religious myself. Just comparison in behavior. It's like if the chuunibyou delusions were for real. Hesiod definitely had chuunibyou though.
if you haven't watch the show, chuunibyou is 8th grade syndrome. You know, when we were in middle school with ridiculous imagination and we imagined ourselves as having special powers, or we thought some people were robots/aliens, or we could control and communicate with animals. you know, that. That embarrassing time of our life we wish didn't happen.
omg I had a friend that thought she could harness the power of the wind spirit (wut?), had a chant and arm motion too. holy lol. I swear it wasn't me, it was a friend, A FRIEND I SAY. But is it really any different with me thinking I have the Holy Spirit with me?
I think it's possible that an element of chuunibyou is present in some parts of religion

To an atheist, a religion is basically a cult that survived the death of its founder. They are all as silly and absurd as chuunibyou.
To a believer, their own religion, despite having some of the external trappings similar to other religions (as you pointed out, the special clothes, the clergy, etc), has The Truth at its core, while those other religions (and cults, and children's covens, and whatever other mystic nonsense) don't.
The question is whether he was a prophet, a madman, or a liar.
I know there are Christian churches that are more into "chuunibyou" trappings/rituals than others. Sounds like just the thing for you.
