Who the hell is Pie supposed to be? According to the cutscene she's an innocent girl who thinks she's responsible for all this tragedy. And she's a ghost. So who is she?

I have to admit my maple-lore is rusty as hell, but it's seriously not ringing a bell here.

Replay the story for a different ending. There are two endings for Pie, the one you're talking about happens if you tell Phantom about Pie. Try seeing what happens if you keep her secret.

She's not someone we've seen before.
Have you done both endings involving her?

    Spoilers ahead:

As a child, she saw the house that she lived in with her parents (who were, apparently, servants) burn down, with her family and their masters. She was the last person to touch the fireplace so she believed she caused the fire, and tried to kill herself. Phantom stopped her from doing it and told her that it was the master of the house who lit a candle, which later set the curtains on fire, who was at fault. (Phantom had been watching the house because he wanted to steal something from it. We got no explanation as to why he saw the fire start and did nothing to stop it or to save the people inside).

So, she decided to keep living and apparently was a maid for a long and useful life. (This bit is fuzzy).
After she died, she stayed in the world of the living in order to keep watch over Phantom, to whom she felt she owed her life.

    Yeah, makes very little sense.

In fact, the entire story makes zero sense. Phantom's intelligence agents picks 4 final candidates to be his maid, without doing any background checking on them until after they dispatch you to find the assassin? And all four girls only joined the Academy after Phantom announced he was looking for a new maid? How long does it take to train a maid, anyway?

    But hey, free android, right?

@Neospector Ah I haven't tried the other ending. I guess I should've before posting. I got too worked up!

@Akradian Ooooh, thanks for the spoilers! Yeah there are oddities in the first two stories. I recall an option in the first story wherein I was suddenly surprised that the girl was called Anna. I was reading everything and there was no mention of it past that point. There were also several typos/grammar issues but it's fine. I swear I've never ss'ed this much on a cutscene or any content than I have in the first story.

As someone who really hates all these cutscenes where I can't fj and/or npc chat is locked to space bar, this is quite enjoyable.
