How do you capture the vikings with aran?

My regular attack and all my other skills instantly kill them, and if i duck and attack i do stupidly low amounts of damage for some reason, about ~60 or so.

    What vikings? In the mushroom castle theme dungeon? Either take off equipment to lower your attack damage or keep at it ducking and hitting them.
