mushroom shrine Tengu issue

First time playing mushroom shrine, I reach Tengu and he asks me to be in a party inorder to fight. I do so, make a party. Then he says "Select Attempt as a Party to challenge me with friends" and the convo text ends there? Nothing to select further and no way to get into fighting him. Anyone know what is going on? Am i missing at item or something?

    I have this same issue, Tengu says you need to be a party leader...create a party...nothing happens
