No more RNG events

Dear Nexon,

As an old mapler who played since Wizet times, quitting pre-big bang, visiting twice but still deciding not to play..
..And finally learning of Reboot, decided to play once more, along with some friends wanting to try out the game called Maplestory.

Please.. and I mean PLEASE, no more RNG events that requires 24/7 playing with fruitless results or..
Requiring you to be a veteran player with 20%-60% drop potential or any other drop changing item(s)/etc.
This is basically giving any new player or not-so-well off players a huge protruding middle finger.
If however RNG events is Nexon's raison d'être, atleast make it that the reward isn't an end-game item [Reboot].

That's basically telling "new" players in Reboot to straight up quit the game if we can't get it, despite all the effort we put in trying.

As a lv 171 Dual Blader with abysmal HP [144 star force gear to get as much HP as I can get] and still dieing one shot to Blackheart at DIPQ,
Failing to get this ring no matter how much time invested only adds insult to injury.

As a returning player and someone who invited a bunch of friends who came to play this game after quitting another,
This event has done nothing but made us contemplate quitting this RNG bullsh*t that basically screams "If you're new, you'll never earn anything on your own unless you're lucky."
As events like this is not realistic at all for new players no matter how much effort they put in, unless they were birthed by leprechauns and unicorns.

New players who put in their all trying to get the SS ring is like playing with a 10% scroll, while veteran players putting in minimum effort is like playing with a 30-100% scroll.

Being constantly reminded while playing in Reboot either through friendly reminders or messages from item speakers that SS Ring is a MUST GET.
This event has nothing been short of an absolute buzz kill and have done nothing but drive us towards the thought..
"You're about to miss out on a potential end-game item that you can never get again despite tolling your ass off for it."

Ignoring the fact that it could be a game-changer for me and my friends who's new to the game and at my current progress of the game.
Just knowing that we missed out on an end-game item.. not because we didn't put enough effort.. but simply because of RNG.

And to those who think "Well if you're going to play this half-hearted, better to just quit now".
We've been doing foodfight for the drop buff, doing anything to get 100-130 coins daily [playing like we have no lives everyday] only to constantly fail.
In-fact, a hour ago both my friend and I spent 120 coins + a previous A gem, resulted in nothing but returning my previous A gem back.
..
..
Now if this was the first time this happened, I would call it bad luck..
But.. all I see is a big middle finger telling me to quit this game now as clearly this happens everyday.
It doesn't help that our only way to effect drop rate is familiar & foodfight buff, resulting us taking hours upon hours everyday to farm for rice cakes.
And only to see this result everyday;
image

That being said, thanks for reading all this.
We'll still be around as we've spent lots of money already on surprize boxes & etc.
Also we'll continue to try to get the RNG ring but will most likely quit if we have to experiene another RNG event that gives out an end or near end game item.
If you must cater to players who can change their drop rate with the drop of a hat, please just set a restriction that mobs below level 200 can't get any rice cakes.

Thank you.

If you don't get that ring there is a 20 attack one coming with the V update and I think it can be potted too. I agree though the rng in some of these events is just silly. They're meant to be events.

I agree that this game has way too many RNG-based events. And I even made a suggestion to give such events a diligence backstop, so that if you try your best you're always assured of a worthwhile reward.

Specifically for the SS ring, it should simply have been put in the shop for 1500 coins or w/e, instead of this whole business with the bunny.

I do want to address a couple of other points in your post, though:

First of all, get off reddit. Or whoever it is that keeps telling you that if you don't have every single Best-in-Slot item you should quit the game. That attitude is just a stressor you don't need. The game can be a lot of fun even without that gear. Besides, the BiS keeps changing. Up until this event appeared, the same crowd would jeer at you if you didn't have 3 blackgate rings, because that was determined to be the Reboot BiS configuration.
Just relax and have fun. And if an event is not fun - don't do it.

Second, don't begrudge veteran players their advantage. Especially in Reboot, these people worked hard for their %drop gear (except for those that cheated). They deserve to have it make future events easier. And it gives you something to look forward to: work on your own %drop gear so you can have a somewhat easier time in the future. Events shouldn't be as hard for veterans as they are for new players. Otherwise what's the point of "improving" yourself?

    Thanks for reading,

Don't get me wrong, I'm not begrudging veteran players.

Effort whether past or present should be rewarded and I agree.
Events like this though? This simply caters only to people who have a past in this game or either entirely on luck.
If nexon's intends to cater towards veteran players, they should simply do so instead of going at it in roundabout ways, this only makes new players want to give up.

A veteran player earns something whether through lots or bare minimum effort? I'm down with that, no problems in-fact.
It just means they placed in the effort in the past to be where they're at now.

Though.. the way events like this are structured is just simply absurd.
New players placing in the same if not more [usually a lot more], earning absolutely nothing? That's just ridiculous.
Especially with how the "event" is structured, making it seem as if it isn't that far or hard to reach when it's just simply ridiculous or impossible for new players to do.
An event is something optional or something fun, again yeah I agree..

But when you're new and trying to get whatever advantage you can, seeing "fun events" like this.. just feels like it's nexon's way of saying "F*** off our game".

I agree about relaxing and having fun but at this point it isn't even fun anymore.
Two weeks in the game since we started and we're stuck with pensalir sets and little way to improve, that alone is depressing if not stressing most of us out.

That being said, we want to improve through our own effort.
We're trying everything. Maxed smithing, alchemy, etc, made link chars etc, spamming bosses that we can do [very limited] but getting no where as it seems we've reached a point where personal effort or group effort of a bunch of newbies won't amount to much unless over a very lengthy extended period of time.

We don't personally mind persisting and everything.. but when nexon dangles something like this in front of us and makes it seem as if its achievable.. eh..
Events is a way to climb further for new players but events like this is simply telling new players to give up.

Events like this cators completely to veterans.. but what makes all this more ridiculous is that majority of veterans don't even need it, at best it's just a "minor upgrade".
For new players or players who aren't that far ahead? Prizes like this could be a game changer, saving possibly months of time [realistically].
Instead we're met with something like this; where efforts will not be repaid in kind and feeling daunted at how "easy" it is for veteran players even though this is a "fun event for everyone".

    Once again, thanks for reading.
I fully agree with the "1500 points" coins, even if that would take a lot of time, atleast it's do-able and gauranteed rewarding even for a new player.

Plenty of veterans couldn't get the SS ring, either. The only advantage they have is that it takes less time to farm the coins. But that RNG bunny swallows up their coins just as easily as it swallows yours.

"Two weeks in the game since we started and we're stuck with pensalir"?
Where did you expect to be in two weeks?

To get stronger you have two options:
    1. Join a guild that does CRA/Hellux/HMag carries, put in your contribution, get carries, get endgame gear. Meanwhile, farm meso because you'll need to cube those items. They don't make you very powerful when they're clean.
    2. Farm meso to cube your Pensalir sets to the point where you can, as a group, defeat Cygnus and get Empress sets. Then cube those until you're strong enough to CRA.

    Neither path takes 2 weeks.
This is a very grindy game. Moreso in Reboot where you can't pay to take a shortcut.

That ring, if you'd gotten it, wouldn't have made that big of a difference. It wouldn't make you able to defeat any boss you can't beat now. Click on it in someone's celebratory smega if you don't believe me, see just how much it would raise your damage range.

You got sucked in to Nexon's dangling that thing in front of your face, and reddit going crazy with the "must-have new best-in-slot item". You have learned your lesson. From now on, try focusing your efforts on things that are more likely to help.

    Happy Mapling!

Two weeks of playing like a no life*.
Would probably be equal to something like 3-4 months a normal person would play.
Where'd I expect? I guess pretty far? With the game as it is now compared to back then, I expected to get farther than where we're at now.
Especially when using all guides accessible, actually following instructions and etc.
Hell back then getting level 30 through a week of gameplay would already label you as a pro.

Thanks for the suggestions, I understand that the RNG bunny doesn't discriminate.
What is completely different though is that what would take veteran players 1 hour to do [possibly even less], takes new players hours if not an entire day.

That ring actually could make a big impact for me and my friends actually, not only because it's almost equivalent to 2 pieces of gear but also because of the HP & MP it gives.
As most of our jobs are not tanky enough for bosses like blackheart from DIPQ.

As for the reddit comments, I only search reddit for guides, as for reading ETC / posting? Not at all.
Mostly paying attention to in-game, daily theres like 3-4 people using item megaphone with SS ring and some people offering friendly suggestions to try and go for the SS ring.

From now on, try focusing your efforts on things that are more likely to help.
I am and isn't this why I made this suggestion?
I'm not trying to just blatantly whine and complain, this is why I made this "suggestion post".
We aimed for the ring cause it is "more likely to help" then anything we can obtain at our current state.
We just didn't think that after all this tolling, we'd be completely empty handed.
Again this is why I made this suggestion post.
RNG events like this is simply ridiculous, even more so when it hardly benefits nexon's aimed audience.

As for getting carried, we'll stick to just trying to find our way ourselves, no fun letting others play the game for us.
This event was an opportunity, we sought it and didn't think it was this unrewarding.
We were fine with the halloween system event, the annoying afterlands, etc as it still gave something to us for our efforts.
Again this is why I made this suggestion post, we placed in lots of time and effort, got nothing and I'm very positive we aren't the only ones.
Again this is the perfect time to throw a suggestion, even more so from the view point of people who just joined this game.

And I fully agree with your suggestion, as I wrote in my first post in this thread. I think the game contains way too much RNG that serves no purpose other than to frustrate players. This particular event was exceptionally bad in that regard.

Other than that I was just trying to get you to relax and enjoy the ride a bit more. Progression in the game is indeed a lot faster than it used to be, but it's not quite instant just yet.

Looking at the next update, it's time for instant noodles.
