Another duped item removal wave recently hit Maple, and while I wasn't a victim of it, I find it extremely unfair (as many of you do) that legitimate players have to bear the responsibility of making sure an item isn't duped. Nexon's suggestions for avoiding duped items are almost completely useless:
1. Ask for how the item was obtained
If the seller was the person who duped the item, why would they tell the buyer that the item was duped? Also, what if the seller wasn't the duper and didn't know the item was duped?
2. Make sure the seller is reputable and trusted
Once again, what if the seller isn't the original duper? What if you're using the Auction House?
3. Document your purchase and the seller's ID to report if found to have been sold a duplicated item
Auction House? And there's no reliable way to check if an item has been duped...
Clearly, Nexon has some kind of system to check whether items were duped or not. In other games, say CS:GO, anybody can go to a website see the hash value (so called "float") generated using the weapon's skin and its condition, which can never change. MapleStory should have something similar, except with the item, time of creation, etc. Otherwise, how would Nexon reliably remove duped items?
If Nexon doesn't have such a system, I think having one will make checking for duped items infinitely easier. But I'm sure they do. Then wouldn't it be relatively easy to solve this problem, once and for all? Just let the players see the hash/unique ID associated with each item. Now, I don't know if this has been suggested before, and I don't know how Nexon would feel about making such internal information about the game public. After all, CS:GO's market and Valve, the company that runs the Steam Community Market where CS:GO items are traded, operate very differently from MapleStory and Nexon. What do you guys think?

Of course it should be on us to verify that an item is legit, when there is absolutely no way to do that whatsoever. They're just lazy, and instead of doing the right thing they do the easy thing.
