Can't raise sun in Afterlands

I've reached the part in Afterlands where I've defeated the Mushroom Marauders and Battle Balrogs, and now need to make it day. The "sun" is almost one hit from the top, but every time I attack the gear a message pops up telling me to raise the sun and telling me my quest status instead of actually raising the sun. Character name is PinkSaria, Angelic Buster.
