Pathfinder & Step up

So the patch notes states the following for the Adventure: Step Up event.
Requirements: Lv. 33 and above. New characters created after June 26th, including Pathfinder characters. Zero characters cannot participate in the event.

And the event post states:
Level up a new character and earn rewards along the way in Adventure Step Up! To participate, create a new character during the event period and get it to at least Lv. 33.

So does this mean if I want a pathfinder to participate I need to create a new one after the 26th? Or will my pre-created one be able to participate?
