And yes, I know WHAT gear to get (http://forums.maplestory.nexon.net/discussion/274/range-building-guide#latest) from the list on that thread, but have no idea how to earn them in game.
What quest lines or bosses for example, and if there's unlocking features then how?

Also, I want to play a party friendly class, but unsure what to go for since I figure I'll be soloing (I think that's common now with current content though?) until sometime after level 100.
Leaning towards bishop though.

These quest are reasonable easy to do without any expensive or powerful equipment
Secondary Weapon (Purchase from NPC in town)
Emblem (You get this for free once you complete the Explorer Storyline Quest)
Ghost Ship Exorcist (Complete the Singapore Ghost Ship Questline)

These items require a large amount of farming over many weeks
Gollux Rings (You can either farm coins over a long period of time or try and kill Hell Gollux)
Tyrant Gloves (Purchase by farming coins from the Kritias Invasion)

The below 4 bosses are from the Chaos version of the Root Abyss bosses, which are some of the strongest in the game.
    Fafnir Weapon (Chaos Vellum)
Eagle Eye Top [this is the real name of the top] (Chaos Von Bon)
    Trixter Bottom (Chaos Pierre)
    Royal Hat (Chaos Crimson Queen)

The two bosses listed below are some of the strongest in the game.
    Tyrant Cloak/Belt/Shoes (Hard Magnus)
    Superior Gollux Pendent (Hell Gollux)

I must admit, that was a pretty poorly written guide. Most of these items come from the most difficult bosses in the game, you would actually need all the perfect stats and items from that guide to even kill all these bosses solo. Much of the knowledge in that guide is common knowledge in terms of what is the best equipment and stats to get, but little in terms of actually progressing to it. I recommend to do a little more searching for guides online, Reddit has some nice ones that offer equipment recommendations that are less of requiring you to be the strongest.

OH, thanks for that clarification, I appreciate it.

Alright, so I'll hunt around for a guide that explains the in between gear.
