Consider Linux/Steam Deck Support for MapleStory

With the rise of Linux gaming—largely thanks to the Steam Deck—and Windows 10 support ending in October 2025, many of us are looking for alternatives to Windows 11 due to its performance issues and hardware restrictions.

MapleStory currently doesn't run on Linux due to GameGuard. Only real option to play on the Deck natively is to install Windows or a VM, or a steaming service like Geforce Now which is a pain subscription

Other major MMOs like FFXIV, Guild Wars 2, and RuneScape now work well on Linux or Steam Deck (many through Proton). Even legacy games like WoW and SWTOR are playable.

There's a growing demand for Nexon to support Linux, or at least allow Proton compatibility by updating or replacing GameGuard. It would future-proof the game and let more players enjoy MapleStory without being locked into a single OS.

Nexon is bringing support to MAC OS eventually, which is also UNIX based, hopefully this is good news for a eventual Linux port as Maple is the only reason I'm still tied to Windows.
If I'm remembering the numbers off the top of my head correctly Mac is around 10% of the PC userbase and Linux is around 2%, however those Linux numbers are quickly rising thanks to Steam and Valve seems pretty adamant that anything that doesn't run on Steam OS is a eyesore and needs to be made compatible with their push for proton supporting nearly every game on steam that isn't under anti-cheat.
