Does everyone who participated in the event get the chest and quest line, or do we have to beat up the BM again?

    The genesis weapon quest has no bearing on the black mage event, nor your progress through ranks. It's for people 250 and up.

    And yes, it will require clearing the black mage. You can read this post to find more details on it.
