    Yes, people want power fantasy, but they also want party play. But most importantly: People want to be effective. Most people I know started playing MapleStory as a kid. And we're grown ups now. Work, university, and family eats up lot of time. We want to make the time count in MapleStory. So we need to sacrifice a few things, like party play. Sure no one is forcing us, but the less time you have, the more effective you want to spend your remaining time. That's why people go single in CLP on 4x EXP buying Frenzy service. They want to blaze trough the grinding process. If you team up, you can cut your rates dramatically.

    I think an optimal (well not optimal for the servers) solution would be instanced but still shared maps. Just like the Black Mage event maps, with a few tweaks.
    You should be able to party, while being at the same maps. Mobs would be instanced, so are runes. Elite bosses could be shared. You could buff your friends, still socialize. Frenzy (and Kishin?) should be instanced too, making it non share-able. Why, you ask? Because it ruins the market. People, who presumably own a huge load of money (IRL) can cash trough all the paywalls, and can get their hands on a Frenzy totem. They already can beat every boss, making them the richest in-game. And them selling frenzy service just pumps the money from less powerful/funded players towards them. Several low-funded friends of mine spend most of their mesos on Frenzy service, because it hugely impacts your grinding.

    Ok I was a bit off track in the end, but I still think Nexon needs to mix effectiveness with social play. I know this is hard to implement and maintain, but I think it's them who need to take a step towards social play, not the players (since we're limited by the game and our lives).

  • Ark discussion

    I find this class incredibly fun. I really like the effects and the playstyle, and the story. People like to compare it to shade but in my opinion the only thing they share is both of them being pirates. And maybe the spectres. Being complicated is fun to me. The main selling point of Ark and Cadena for me is the variety of skills. I also really like that I'm encouraged to use the previous job skills. And unlike many other jobs, these skills have a very nice AoE and great damage boost, therefore it's not a pain in the butt. (This is completely personal opinion but for example I find Mercedes linking trash, because her prev job skills are useless in 4th job. Just simply not viable)
    Another thing I really love about Ark is the mobility. Fast speed, vertical and horizontal flash jumps, 2x flash in Spectre mode. Unstoppable Instinct also helps a lot while mobbing. It's convenient to reach for mobs a few platforms above.
    I use my spell bullets on auto mode, but if you 1-hit the mobs, it can be quite frustrating if the spell fails to hit the target, therefore you won't get the buff. So a bit of management is needed. Also +buff duration helps a lot.
    It's been only 5 days but I'm pretty sure it's one of my favorite jobs so far (and I have ALL classes level 140+). Mobbing is godly, skills look amazing, bossing is also viable. I think that since Illium (illium included) Nexon managed to design some really enjoyable and unique classes. Way to go!

  • Level 3 Link skills

    I think it is a terrible idea adding more level 3 links, or lowering the level 3 links from 210 to 200. i put in way too much effort to get my level 3 link skills i want the bar to stay hard and high so common folk can't achieve it.

    I think it's quite "offensive" to use this as an argument. Why would it hurt you if people with less time, or funds could reach this milestone more easily? Sure there are people on YT reaching level 200 in 2 hours but "common folks" usually can't, it takes a lot more time and effort. And also, a really high level means a LOT of training, discouraging people from reaching that milestone at all. The whole point of link skills is to make it rewarding to train many (if not all) jobs to a limit. But if that limit is way too high, then what's the point? Most of my link mules are at level 120, because 210 is way too high, and if a job does not really fit me, then I'm discouraged, why should I put many many hours and mesos (not to mention NX to get 2x XP to speed up the process) to play with a job I don't really enjoy, if the payoff is really small?
    Sure small bonuses add up, but still...

  • Maintenance [EU]

    Dear Nexon! I know that keeping the server up and running is not simple, and the migration process is important also. But It's 17:47 and I've tried to play (on Luna) and it DC'ed me and I checked the news and saw the maintenance notification. And that's okay, but I have 2 problems with this

    First, it was announced around 4 AM CET which is kinda ridiculous if you ask me... who plays around that time?
    Second, The Play V event does not give you many opportunities to miss those reward boxes if I want the final reward box. And I just wanted to do them now but I have to wait until 7 PM and have 4 hours to finish today's events. Which is plenty of time, but it's evening. And what if the maintenance will be extended? I'm pretty sure there will be no event extension (not to mention that on 30th of November no one could play due to the extremely long maintenance) . So please update us in time and do the maintenance in the morning (Europe) next time (It's the European server so I think it should be adjusted to the European players [waiting for triggered players]).

    Hackers everywhere? Nah... no problem.
    Bots everywhere? Just chill.
    Bugs that can ruin the experience? We got time to fix this.
    Lag issues? Just DC everyone in every 10 minutes and everything will be fine.

    Players getting benefits from an event? *NEXON TRIGGERED*
    -Phew guys today's maintenance went pretty well. We managed to finish everything by 7:00PM lest put the servers back on
    -WAIT!!! We forgot to ruin the holiday events
    -Oh thank god you mentioned that. The players almost had a nice Maple Christmas.
