having the chat window extended causes frame lag

The larger the chat window is, the more the client drops frames. On a pretty good pc (gtx 1050 + 6700k) if I make the chat window as large as possible, I drop to about 5-20 fps while killing/looting. If I minimize it to be 1 line, I get around 20-60. External chat window doesn't seem to have this problem, but forces you to be windowed
