Ever since we "Went West" GMS has avoided some changes that happened to the game such as the daily meso cap, sticking to cubes and keep Reboot the way it is. We fiercly opposed the idea of having a limit of mesos being farmed, the ways cubes were obtain, and the mesos multiplier being removed in Reboot as we saw it as slowing the way how Reboot operated with less mesos brought in, but right now, I don't see GMS Reboot or Reg being able to survive future content being developed for us.
BPot Issues in reg: Reg has the original scrolling, potential, bonus potentials, flames, souls and star force of course. While Star Force is considered universally hated due to booming and needing to find spares (especially Pitch, Brilliant, Eternals or anything considered difficult to source,) Reg has Bpot to deal with it and it is
not friendly. Some might think it is simple as regular potentials but with a wider pool of lines with smaller values, but it is much more difficult to get anything good. Regular potentials have the option to roll with Bright Cubes (Black Cubes) and they allow the user to pick whether they want to keep their result or roll again, theoretically, allows to them roll to perfect lines without worrying about losing a decent result. The cash shop only regularly sells Bonus Glowing Cubes (the old Green Bonus Pot Cubes.) These cubes are incredibly risky as every roll throws out your previous good roll in hopes of getting a better one. Even our other upgrade systems have some sort of safety net like our cash scrolls to protect items from booming (Primes scrolls,)using returns scrolls to min max our ICOG rolls as well as Black Flames which is universal to both servers.
The reason why Reboot has an easier time finding good potentials is because they got a higher meso multiplier that allows them to throw more Bright Cubes at their item. They can essentially cube something 2 or 3 lines to 2 Prime without worrying about going from 1/2 lines to nothing. Reg does have that for potentials if you ignore the fact that mesos is becoming less valuable due to farming so mesos don't get you a lot in turns of cubes and only mainly whales benefit from pretty much any imbalance, BPOTs are hard to roll because Bonus Brights aren't common enough and Bonus Glowing are our primary options.
Getting to 6L lines on items is extremely difficult to the point that merchants or any smart players cube accessories to 3L Bpot anything instead of cubing for 3L LUK/DEX/INT/STR then going for Bpot due to them knowing well they won't find 3L Bpot of their stat, but anything else. So a Thief class who rolled 3L INT% Total Control would trade a Mage who roll 3L LUK% BPOT on an item they want. During this trade, they don't bother with looking at the main pot as that is "easier" because reg potentials have a "Black Cube" while BPOT just doesn't have it regularly.
During times Glow Bright Cubes are available, they are pretty much only available in major update attendance and are limited in quantity. A normal player has the opportunity to empty out the boss coin shop for 30 cubes and the attendance one another 30. This is extremely little since you are pretty much not going to get anything good out of it. The only real way to benefit from this is you buy service from people (which is expensive and sketchy and works best with unused items unless they want to pay 4k for a PSOK between every trade for used items as well as degrading the scissor counts etc) or make multiple emails to bypass the limited quantity by having multiple people/accounts help you.
Story 1:Let me show you a story on how terrible BPot cubing is for an F2P player. I've personally been working with the latter option to work on my items. The reason my item Arcanes/secondaries are 2L bpots is because is because is because I did 10 accounts worth of attendance just to work on a single item. Back when Bonus Bright Cubes weren't available, I was able to 2L ATT% Bpot 3 items including 2 arcanes is because i tortured myself to do 10 times the dailies and boss carries just to have extra cubes. It was frustrating working on my Claw, and Dagger and Shadower shield and watching my Bpot go from 1L ATT% to garbage. Somethings I would cry and ask myself to settle for 2L DMG or a line of DMG and ATT knowing it is still hell. Eventually I got them to 2L ATT% and it was
HELL. Some items were stubborn like my Arcane Dagger which took a year of work with my 10 accounts using the Maple Gift/Fairy Bros Cubes with whatever major event's boss coin shop while my claw and shield took half the time. This was during a time when Inkwell didn't put RP Bpot cubes yet and the event bpot cubes didn't allow you to pick before or after. You know if your item upgrade system is flawed when it takes you nearly a year to finish an item on 10x F2P speed. This is nothing compared
Recently with KMS ditching cubes, all cubes from events have been turned to their Karma forms so that they only work on items that are untradeable. We just finished our 20th anniversary which was pretty much a copy and paste from KMS's 21st anniversary with its Bpot cubes (non karma as this was that period when mesos were used on pots but not bpots yet.) Our previous major event only had Karma Bonus Bright Cubes while our recent one copied one the regular Bonus Bright Cubes. Moving forward from Stargazer/Next, GMS is most likely gonna stay with with receiving the limited supply Karma Bonus Bright Cubes in Reg. The reason this is "fine" in KMS is because they already have Magic Wand which allows them re-roll Bpots and reg Pots like a regular Bonus Bright Cubes and Bright Cubes and not having to worry about tradibility or limited supply of cubes. Sure the meso price for using wand is expensive, so Karma White Cubes is just a steep discount for recubing their own gear while it just hurts the chances of reg to making anything good where the user only pays the usual reveal pot fee and not the wand's reroll fee that is nearly 200m per bpot roll on stuff like 200-250 items. GMS just being limited to Karma Cubes while they don't have a reliable way to rerolling BPOTs without the risks makes it harder to progress.
Story 2:Here is a more recent tale of Bonus Bright Cubes being only good in large quantities and how having a locked item takes forever. Back in Dreamer/ Go West 2024, I got my hands on a Mitra's Rage. This was my first time getting access to both a large quantity of Brights and its Bonus counterpart. My plan was to use use all the cubes from my alts to finish my cube using the Red cubes first followed by the Black/White Cubes. I was able to get 2L ATT 1 IED mpot and 2 non prime ATT% lines with a LUK% line on the bpot within half of the 190 Bonus Brights available. Since it was the first I worked with Bonus Bright Cubes, I was able to "greed" to see if 3L ATT% Bpot was a thing, but i got better but also lost nothing. During this time, my main account didn't personally work on the Mitra's Rage's bpot as I was still working on my Genesis Dagger which I had for 2.5 years aleady and no sign of 2L ATT% Bpot. Up from then until now, I was able to actually make 2L Bpot for 3 Pitch Items as well as 2L ATT% bpot a RFS from Milestone to now using all that "manpower," but during that time my Genesis Dagger's Bpot remains cursed and its year 3. During my dagger's suffering, I was able to 2L ATT% 2x times and somehow 3L 2x pitch items while my own item is still at 0-1 good bpot lines. I don't think I am lucky, I just was working on items that were transferrable with the best cubes and had the ability to switch hands 9 tiems while my dagger's bpot is terrible with a whole character's worth of work. This story and the previous one shows that you need a ridiculous amount of cubes get something good in reg.
I have a feeling 6L as well as 25 stars will be the required norm to be able to take on KMS's upcoming content. Just a week or 2 ago, 신해조 (shinhaejo) became the first player to turn his Genesis Dagger into a Destiny Dagger. This was shortly followed by 후닝, a strong NL, 글자네무삭제 the giant PC Cafe owner who mains Kain and 팡이요, the Adele main (there might be other giga whales in KMS who did it but this was the small list I know from the biggest KMS streamers/whales.) All these players pretty much did not 5L'ed their items, but must had rolled 6L'ed on EVERYTHING as well as aiming for the highest flames and rolling 6s on ICOGS. I seen Shin's items and his items as of now are at least 25 star (due to them having a 30 star cap which we are getting soon.) The only players I know that as crazy as these KMS players are Bane, Swirled, Sunny and Morals. If 6L 25 stars, perfect ICOGs gear is needed to complete PART 1 liberation of Destiny which consists of a -80% FD Hard Seren , a CKalos run with 3 lives and Hard Kaling with +20% FD all while solo, one can imagine what is needed to solo Part 2 which is Hard Limbo, Hard Baldrix and a third mystery boss. If this content was created by Kim Changseop assumes all the regional servers aren't Reboot and they all have near perfect control on Bpots and other enhancement servers, GMS stands little to no chance to what future content we are getting. In Reg, we cannot get "perfect" Bpots so we cannot reach our ceiling due to fear of losing our 2L/1L for a zero-liner and Reboot has a lower ceiling due to having safety and abundance for most of its meso based enhancements but has trouble progressing past that due to Reboot restricting trades so spares for rare items and the FD passive being inferior to what Bpot
could offer. I feel like most future content is not made for the players but specifically Shin and the other streamers who spend more on an item than an exotic car or luxury apartment (an English KMS streamer said something like Shin financed a single item and it costed nearly 199k USD or 1.8M USD which is beyond wild.)
If Nexon is serious about GMS being able to progress and that Destiny weapons aren't a fantasy, they would have to offer us players in both Reboot and Reg a better route to help us progres by helping where each server struggles in.
For Reg Server: From my past experience and from my guild's and BL's cries, having permanent access to White Cubes/Bonus Bright Cubes or something similar. Even adapting KMS's wand feature might help as it would provide a meso sink and also allow F2P to participate in Bpot cubing. Reg/Reboot initially rejected original wand idea due to meso cap and removal of in games cubes and loss of its NX option (reg server.) Here is some things that can be added to our "Western" version of wand to make it more favorable
-Keep existing cash cubes and adding Bonus Bright Cubes in the game for whales who have money to cube whether they are low or mesos or just too lazy to farm/merch.
-Keeping Solid, Hard and Mythical would allow cheaper cubing for those who are just cubing for mules and don't want to splurge
Here are some options for how GMS's Wand feature could be based on:
1) The wand's prices matches KMS's and GMS doesn't get a meso cap
2) he wand's prices matches KMS's and GMS gets a meso cap
3) The wand's prices is multiplied to account for GMS Reg's "inflation" from spawn enhancers like FZ and Chains
4) The price fluctuates similar to the Meso Market
For Reboot (Controversal)t:
https://forums.maplestory.nexon.net/discussion/35163/30-star-force-limit-is-more-difficuilt-in-gms#latest
TBH, I feel a lot of Reboot's problems is from it being "unique" and not being a trading server. A lot of storage issues and shortage on certain equipment because you cannot trade or store equipment. Just enable trade for the server and treat it like a normal. This should solve Reboot's "Pitch Problem" and "Hoarding GSRs and KTs for SSF."
To address the damage deficit, Bonus Bright Cubes for mesos would be a lot better due to higher ceiling and the similar control to Reboot rereolling reg pots for mesos.
Reboot has a feature Reg can benefit from and vice versa. In the end there really shouldn't be two distinct server types, just 1 type that works.
This is what I can think of that would help both GMS servers so that future content is doable and to help alleviate the existing progression issues in both servers. I am not biased for either servers; I just want to see both of them thrive. I don't want to see future content that is unclearable for us because GMS Reg cannot reach its full potential due to its horrible bonus cubing system and Reboot is missing FD from its passives and own equipment problem prevents its playerbase from progressing. I hope Inkwell and the GMS team will address our servers' shortcomings and would remedy them even if it means copying KMS and adding a small twist to it to make it better for the players.
Comments
The idea behind it was to kill Reboot and slowing making Reg become more meso reliant when it comes to potentials/bonus potentials. The design behind it was to only count the best 12 (14 here) boss and have them share the crystal limit so that players kill the harder bosses instead of making 4 door/lomien mules or early normal Arcane River buck. To push this incentive, they cut mesos provided at the lower end bosses and boost the higher end Grandis bosses as well as Extreme Black Mage. This design was meant to benefit players who actually build multiple characters to beyond "mule" status and make it less effective for those just making CRA mules.
Also with the loss of their NX cubes and it becoming a meso feature, this limits mesos being produced by lower level/weaker characters so that players would be tempted to spend on MP to buy Mesos or just get stronger and fight harder bosses for more valuable crystals.
I think they could also improve on making reg more enticing for people in general, not just strictly about cubes directly. COR being "available" kinda of leans in that direction, but its def. still too difficult and unreliable to get for a "normal" low spending player. maybe more reg exclusive events. idk exactly what, but something to keep people interested in reg and give them a reason to play it over reboot
My thinking is, get more people into interactive in general, and then we will see more items available to buy in auction house as people sell off their undesired 3L's etc.
but in reality i think GMS is fine with letting reg rot and die and milk it on the way down. Ever since reboot launched its been downhill for reg servers. Its just not compelling enough for new players, and the server needs a steady flow of new players imo for a real healthy and vibrant economy.
I am quite happier that Inkwell decided to address the Frenzy Totem issues by introducing COR to slowly get rid of legacy gap and services by allowing players to have one (temporarily) from Ride or Die and Philo. Would be nice if he decided to make it perm or even more accessible like from Maple Gift attendance.
Reg in its current state is really unappealing unless you really know what you are doing or just throwing your wallet at the game. A F2P cannot go far with abyssmal 5 cubes from the RP shop or having to deal with RNG for Hards and Solids. And if you decide to use the Meso Market, you wouldn't be able to afford much due to abundance of mesos from more experienced players who are able to rake in billions over a couple of hours. Scrolling and Bpots are also difficult in Reg and Reboot has that taken care of in their Reboot Passive (until more endgame content arrives and a BPOT + scrolling could theoretically be stronger than Reboot Passive.) Reboot is just easier to pick up as you are able to get a large quantity of cubes to 3L potentials without risk and not have to worry about scrolling and Bpot because that is what the Reboot Passive is supposed to do.
If GMS doesn't address the difficulty and paywall of Reg and don't closely monitor Reboot, both servers would have a difficult or impossible time clearing content such as when we see more of Darmoor's apostles and we are tasked to liberate our Genesis Weapons into Destiny Weapons. This is similar to the hell GMS had prior to 2018 when they had Nebulites and was limited to 15 stars and Hard Lucid was unclearable. The content we are getting from KMS assumes everyone has access to Black and White cubes in the form Magic Wand, have access to scrolls and able to make use of the 30 star cap. When the content gets harder, Inkwell would soon have to create a new Reboot formula that allows for future content to be cleared which take development time and real money. Reboot would still have their pitch boss issues and won't be able to provide enough spares for them while other more available gear will clog their inventory until SSF because they cannot get more spares for rarer items and their fodder and easier spares cannot be moved to storage.
If GMS decided to normalize Reboot and give it and Reg Wand, it would greatly improve both servers. Reboot would have a higher damage ceiling and fix their gear storage/shortage issues and Reg would have access to more cubes and better control over their potentials and bonus potentials without creating new solutions for both servers. I don't want GMS to have 2 unique servers with their own pros and cons and different playing experiences; I just want GMS to have one type of server that actually works. "Going WEST" doesn't mean being unique from Korea, but tweaking the game so it thrives globally. Small changes like the ones mentioned above can improve wand to make it better suited to GMS such as keeping Cash Shop cubes, boss cubes and crafted cubes.
Reboot is preferable to reg and I would rather Nexon just keep both server types, each with their own pros and cons.
I like reboot because of the higher focus on doing things yourself or at least not being able to get a (completely) free lunch.
Right now I think reg is just too hard to get into for new players while reboot is easier for new players.
Once you're actually established reg should be the easier server to exist in based on what little experience I have with it.
I think reboot's easy early game should be given to reg, as reboot was always supposed to be the harder server.
It makes no sense why interactive server is so much harder than heroic to do similar damage. Interactive server should be the easier server if anything because of the ability to trade. However, almost everything is untradable such as cubes, certain equipment without psok and the latest crossworld auction house merge nx items being untradable once purchased while also charging you a maple point fee if the item comes from a different world. It's getting ridiculous and makes you question if they know what interactive means.
Even before magic wand, KMS was able to sell cubes in the auction house. The fact that there is no easy way to access cubes in interactive and not having the ability to reroll potential lines without allowing you to choose before or after stats so you can lose progression is very toxic. If we don't get changes, only <1% of the population will ever have a chance at having perfect gear and do the end game content that they continuously push out. Magic wand will allow people to play the game the way they want - interactive with trading or iron-man no trading.
