Greetings! I come today to the forums, a place which is barely known to me as of 2017, with this question in mind; Would the current MapleStory servers and providers around the world benefit from servers that capture the essence of how MS was back at release?
Call me a nostalgic player if you will; I'm merely posing the question. I understand that updates, and modernization, are necesary for a game to stay relevant. However, not everybody has to agree with the changes made, no? As for my opinion; The current game has a lot of content, has pleased the playerbase with a server that doesn't revolve around P2W (Except for the pets, that is.), and holds weekly events that give part of NX stuff to gradually improve your characters; However, the sense of community within the game... Is gone? I do not mean that the chat in guilds or alliances is silent (Most of the time, at least....), but rather, there's no reason anymore to approach other players, form a group, when you can do almost every content of the game solo (Or rather, forced to do solo, unless you get a "carry"). Or at least that's my view on it, do correct me if I'm wrong.
Overall, current game allows for any player to play however they will, wherever they will, with whatever they will. Which raises the point of classes: It's undeniable, MapleStory has the most diverse concepts for classes I've seen on any other MMO, but on the other hand, that makes the differences between each class... Simply graphic. Yes, the animations are different, the damage lines are different, but it's essentially the same "throw stuff at it until it dies" with different reskins. Even bishops have it! (Although that's not the best example, considering that, as a support based branch of the Magician, they had the most farming potential back then with their wide AoE...). Still, I find it great that there's a class for you, considering the huge variety of concepts.
Would MapleStory be considered a proper MMORPG nowadays? I find it to be a single player chatbox, since you barely group anymore for common stuff. You're either forced on a party (Which then breaks up, look at Zakum queues for example), or grouping ONLY for events, and even then, the chat and conversation among the party is minimal, if not unexistant. There's really no reason to join a guild, either.
In old MS- I'm not going to give you the nostalgia long speech about "how it was better", but I'll simply say groups, friends, and coordination was necesary.
With Blizzard's announcement on Classic World of Warcraft, there's been a noticiable increase on the players around many MMOs claiming that "they wanted to play old MMOs again". I find myself among them, actually; Playing EverQuest recently made me realize how fun it was to get stuff done after a meaningful lot of time, instead of minutes. Still, I find MapleStory to be home at heart, and while I don't exactly like how it has become, I still welcome newer players to try.
I raise the question again; Would MapleStory benefit from servers that capture the essence of 0.01 through all the old content, locking before Big Bang patch?

I'm sure you did not read the whole OP. Do read it and you'll see I never mentioned "legacy", non-official servers.
And I'm sure you didn't read the forums' Code of Conduct.
Here, let me quote the relevant section for you: Note that nowhere does it specify that it only refers to non-official servers.
It's telling isn't it, other notable MMOs are providing old school servers but we're not even allowed to talk about it because it keeps being brought up (or at least it used to before the ban). But hey, they're just a 'loud minority' according to this forum. Tsk.
Short answer? No.
Long answer? Noooooo.
Pre big-bang MS is...*insert disgusted looking face*.
Besides, i'd rather have them work on their current servers than slapping another one and make everything worse. Or...even more than it is now.
The way I see it, it only seems that most people don't want old maple back because they are the ones that remained after BB. I am willing to bet that the people who don't want it back the most we're sub lv 50 with 1-2k range (lnb4 the contrary anecdote). A common misconception is that an old school server would just be a stagnant, undeveloped game. OSRS is constantly adding things without changing the core essence of the game as it used to be (combat system etc.). Same could be done for maple if we were to ever have an old school server. I personally wouldn't mind it, if people want to indulge in their nostalgia in a permanent way (ie official server), then so be it. The problem is that I and many people have become too attached to Reboot to join any sort of pay2win server and lets be honest, it used to be as much pay2win as it is now and thats what we're getting with an old school server. Tl;dr reboot or bust.
