  • Player memo : Solution to server lag coz kishin

    This is a Solutions i can provide to Maplestory based on the assumptions i will make below. I got this assumptions through reading several memos released by Maplestory team. Eventhough some of the assumptions might be wrong, but i Hope it can help you gain more ideas on how to solve the kishin problem.

    1st PART

    But firstly i want to give more insight that not every players hate kanna that much. Not every players think farming mesos on kanna is a burden. People just need a different point of view. one main point is that, Farming mesos on Kanna is not a must. It is just some people is forcefully unwilling to farm on kannas.

    Noone is forhibited to make kanna and farm using kanna. but instead, farming on kanna have created a very unique trait on maplestory. It give us players a way to get our boredom playing main char all the time. When people complaining that they need to farm on kanna is the same as players complaining to why we have to level up 43 different class to level up our legion or to get link skills. You don't have to if you don;t want. But you will lose the link skills and legion boost. So do we delete legion and link skill coz players only want to play their main? HELL NO.

    No players are restricted to farm on kanna. It is just some players are too hated and unwilling to play kanna to farm mesos. Every class has their own uniqueness. it is like an NL complain why they don;t have damage party buff, or a bishop complaining why they don;t have summons that can clean up a lot of monsters in maps similar to Lumi. Cmon, if you want mob class, go main lumi or I/L. If you want bossing class, go try NL or Aran or maybe some other class. if you want buff class or classes with good buff, try Bishop, Wild HUnter, Shade or some other class.

    Kanna itself is not a must. You are not restricted to farm with Kanna if you don;t want. At level 230ish, you can still gain around 200mill perhour without Kanna. with legion mesos coupons gaining around 300mill perhour. But of course it will be less than having kanna which can get you around 600mill perhour+. If you want to farm without kanna, then just farm for 2-3 hours, and you will get the same amount as farming with kanna. You can;t wish for everything perfect. But you can always make a kanna if you wish to.

    About having kanna on the 2nd computer, In my honest opinion, it is one of the best feature Maplestory have in order for players to share and help each other. I know some players have 2nd computer with kanna and they help give kishin to other players. That is creating bond between players. but yeah, not many actually want to do it. But players can still farm by making a kanna and gain around 200mill perhour+ at first. but after a while they will gain to around 500mill perhour or even more.

    If we want all the classes are the same, please I want my NightWalker to have summons similar to Lumi. The summons can attack by itself every second. I also want My Nightwalker Starthrow to be like Luimi can chain attacking mobs far away from me. I also want my NightWalker to have bishop shield protection. Why the hell only bishop can aovid death several times, while my NW don’t have. I also want kanna boss damage 45% skill. Pls give physical attack buff on Kanna as well, why kanna only buff magic attack?. This is so unfair to non-mages class. My mages friend, Ice Lightning and Lumi would be really happy if they can get Flash Jump.. It is so unfair they can’t FJ at Spirit Saviour daily at Arcane map level 225. Pls give all mages FJ. My friend NL also ask for teleport. Coz mages can tele through the Lotus 1st phase laser while his NL can only run into the top hidden teleport to be save. Why mechanic only can create a tele door. Pls other classes also need it example to fight Lucid to avoid the dragons 1 hit kill. I also want my NW can fly like Illium, Xenon, Demon avenger or Demon slayer, I need it to avoid Lotus 2nd phase laser on the ground. I also want mages 5th job skill invicibility 3 seconds. Why only mages can get invicbiility for 3 seconds. All other classes also need it. So unfair.

    All classes are different. But you can play them. Noone restrict you from playing them. If you want to farm, just make a kanna and go farm. It is not like you are only allowed to play kanna for 1-2 hours and after, you are not allowed to. Kanna itself is already really good at farmng.

    2nd PART
    This is the assumptions and solutions to Kanna problem that cause lag, based on my own analisys. I might have a wrong judgement on my analysis but I hope it to help Maplestory teammore ideas and test it out.

    Assumptions and Facts :

    1. The increase on latency, lag and game crash are caused by a huge numbers use on Kishin

    2. Major contributor to the server lag is specifically the Kishin skill and how it functions

    3. Kishin skill allows maps to have more monsters and increases the rate at which they reappear after being defeated, and because of the sheer amount of players in the game
    using this skill at the same time, this causes a lot of technical issues that are difficult to solve

    4. Kishin’s ability to increase monster spawn rate needed to be reduced to provide a smoother experience for all players.

    5. After maintenance, they server ussually feels light, but after few days, the lag increases

    6. I believe, somehow GM have a way to refresh the server without mainteanance, and it lighten the server, until few days later, it gets heavier again.

    7. The server lags more on 2x event.

    8. Kishin skill stay effect for the duration of the kishin eventhough the kanna leave the map already until the skill effect run out after 150 seconds. To prove this, just get kanna to 1 map. Kishin the map and move the kanna to a different map. Kill monsters using any other classes without kishin. The map will still have kishin skill stack into it for 150 seconds.

    My own analysis :
    This is my own analysis what is happening inside the game based on above assumptions
    1. A lot of players is keyweighting on kanna mule to provide kishin, on their kishin skill. This caused kishin skill to be spammed continuosly legit every half a second - a second. so in 60 seconds, each kishin mule will spam around 60-100 kishin skill. This will cause a heavy burden to the server. It might be coz it keep alter the game code to spawn more mob and increase mob spawn every second or every half second. It might connect to the server and cause disturbance to the connection on the server or heavy server load.

    Just go to Arcane map level 225+, CLP map , which is the most famous farming map in maplestory. In case you don’t know where is CLP map, Just ask any high level Players they should know where is CLP map. You will see there are mostlikely 90% of the players there have kishin mule spamming Kishin every second nonstop. If they farm for 8 hours a day, simply kishin will keep spamming for 8 hours straight each second.

    And this CLP map almost never empty, especially before 30 channles update. This not yet counting all other maps that has players spamming kishin by keyweighting it.

    On 2x event, simply every players will get their kishin mule on and spamming kishin every second nonstop. This heavy burden simply enermous and kill the server

    2. This 2nd analysis are related to point 5 and 6 on assumptions section above. According to my analysis, after 3-4 days after a server refresh or maintenance, I will see a huge numbers of maps will have the amount of monsters above the normal amount.

    If GM, after 3 days of maintenance browse around Arcane maps level 200+ which is VJ, Chuchu, lachlein, Arcane or other maps, you will find a lot of maps have the amount of monsters above their normal numbers. Such as if the X map actually only have 30 monsters in it, when you arrive there, you might find around 40-50 monsters in that map eventhough noone in that map and no kishin. And that is not happening only to 1 map, there are hundreds of maps in that situation.

    My analysis, this is due, after a map is being kishined, the amount of monsters in the map will stay above normal even after several hours, until someone clean up the map. But most players, after finish farming/training/grinding, they don’t clean up the map. They just leave. While kishin will still activate for around 150 seconds. Logically, No players will wait 2 mins+ until kishin run out and clean up the map to get the map back to normal amount of monsters. Players will just leave the map after they finish using the map.

    This is combining with the assumption point 8 above, where after the players leave the map, kishin will still stay effect and keep the map with more monsters. Until maybe , if lucky, someone come to the map without kishin and clean up the mosnters. Simply, after 3-4 days after maintenance / refresh, you will see 70% of the map at level 200+ will have the amount of monsters above their normal amount. If only 1 map it is fine. But if 100+ maps x 30 channels have the amount monsters above the normal amount, it will heavily burden the server. Combine with my analysis point 5 and 6, I reached a conclusion that this might be the cause of the lag.


    Possible solutions :

    Before you nerf kishin you might want to consider this first.

    1. Make kishin skill with 150 seconds uptime with 140 seconds cooldown time. No more kishin spam. But it will still spam message that players can’t use this skill, coz it is on cooldown. Not sure if it will still cause a burden to server. But there is 2nd solution below.

    2. Make kishin skills unspammable similar to other skills. Example NW can’t spam triplethrow nonstop without moving. After around 10 seconds, they will sotp attacking. Make kishin similar to this sp players can’t spam kishin anymore. But some players still can avoid this by using random tele + kishin to bypass this (if you know I mean). But you might try.

    3. This is to counter problem on analysis no.2. Making a code inside the game map, that after certain time, lets say 3-5 mins, if there are no players in the map, everymap will refresh by themselves. But not sure. Possibly if the map refresh every few mins, it will cause another server heavy load

    4. Make a code, that in a map, if there are no players or no players after certain time, the monsters in the map will dissapear

    5. To make a code, if there are no players in the map or after certain times, all monsters will revert back to the normal amount.

    6. Make Kishin doesn’t stack to a map even if the 150 seconds of kishin duration is still running. As soon as the kanna is gone, the kishin effect will be gone. But this seems doesn’t really provide much help since after splayers move their kanna mule, they don’t bother to clean up the map. But this surely will reduce the ability of players to share kishin with others. I hope this is the last choice you will do. I highly don’t recommend this coz this is one of the feature in Maplestory to help players gain more friends by helping each other.

    Lastly, all my assumptions and solutions might not true or not work. But hopefully can help the Maplestory team get more ideas. Cheers

  • Disabling Starforcing, Unable to get 5th job

    Yinyang it depends on perspective. Your perspecitve seeing something as bug is not the same as others. and there is no absolute answer on right or wrong on this.

    Bug for me is something is not intended and can disrupt the game play. It is not always a system. It can be gift bug, system update bug, advancement bug, login bug, equipment bug, system bug, skill bug, item bug, chair bug, map bug, tele rock bug , etc. Mostlikely un-intentionally and can happen on a lot of situation. And right now, people can't get their 5th job because they can't star force their gear i would say it is un-intentionally. And when people can't get their 5th job advancement and you are saying it is a not a bug is up to you.

    But for me when players can't get their 5th job advancement, it is obviously a bug. A bug that appear after Maplestory decide to turn off starforcing system. It is not a bug directly on the system. It is a bug that appears after maplestory decide to temporarely cut off one of the system that makes player unable to advance to 5th job. Bug doesn't have to be in the system. Something that disrupt the system itself can be considered a bug eventhough it is un-intentional.

    Players supposedly can get their 5th job advancement, but now they can't get their 5th job advancement because they can't fulfil one of the requirement because that requirement has been cut off temporarily by maplestory. The bug appear as the chain effect of disabling star force which makes player unable to advance to 5th job.

    As i want to state it again, I am 100% agree with GM decision to cut off/disable Star force because they are doing the right thing. It is to prevent exploit. But there is a chain effect that comes afterward which will disrupt a big picture of the game, which is 5th job.

    I am not suggesting to enable the starforcing system before it get fixed. I am suggesting to enable it after it get fixed. But i am also suggesting to give temporary solution so players can advance to 5th job if this fix might take a bit longer

  • It's time for a change.

    They do spend in game because most of cash item are moveable like those cash item. Most of them buy with NX on their hacking char and move the cash items to their main or do gifting to their main account. Because they know now that Nexon is weak against people who bought NX. Long time ago, I did know some rich people who is working at software field and still spend dollars from their pocket for NX. They hack coz they don't have enough time to play. They work most of the day. But they want to be the best, so they hack. They hack not because they can't spend NX. They hack because they can and they want to.

    My best suggestion is to use Video call service as to talk with the people who appeal for account who get banned. nowadays, doing video call mostly is free using the internet. they can uses app like whatsapp, Line or any other apps. If they argue they don't have phones or can't use those app, it is a lie. They can use computer, they have internet to play maplestory, but they argue, don't have phone, that is a big lie. Or at least they can borrow phones from others. I believe there should be also apps for PCs or laptops for video call. People can make thousands of account for hacking purpose, but they cannot fake their face. Nexon should put 1 requirement for Ban appeal to do Video Call or Video Recording and send them via email. In this way, if they made a lot of hacking account, Nexon can easily recognise them. This is not aginst privacy rights too. Because you are not asking for any of their private materers. You just collecting their identity and of course their face recording that proves that they are the one who appeal for certain account. It is similar if you are doing any other appeal, of course you have to show your face and give out your identity. You can't do appeal while hiding your trueself annonymous.. The most top troublesome to solve the hacking problem is because they can hide under annonymious name. They can hide and noone knows who they are. That is why they dare to make 1 or even more hacking account. More and more hackers will show up because they can ran off without being caught. Even if in the end their account getting banned, they can just make another account. If someone appeal for innoncence once in a while is okay,. But if they keep getting banned and doing appeal hundreds of times, it is obviously a lie. But under annonymious, they can just appeal thousands of times. That is the problem. And it affect the whole community of maplestory. And through times, all of those hackers will be multiplied and more and more are coming because the old hackers are still there with their new account while the new one joining in.

    I wrote those up because hacker does affect your legit players. You lose customers because of those hackers. So many of yuour players/customers seen hackers everywhere, getting discouraged. You lose millions of dollars because of those hackers discourage your customers/players and made them quit the game. Legi players play so hard to get better, while hacker just hack their way to be top players. So then your customer/players quitting because you fail to combat the hacker issue. Korean maplestory is still famous because people care about the game and think that they are treated fairly and noone are allowed to hack. But me myself, so many times i feel discouraged on continue playing maplestory global, because so many hackers levleling up or getting a huge amount of mesos simply juts by hacking. I believe there are eo many players out there smililary feeling discouraged like me and just decide to quit. You really need to combat this hacker problems, otherwise you will keep losing players.

    Another way was the suggestion i made few month back. It is to make a Force close on other application when playing maplestory. Players either to choose, to play maplestory, or use other appication. Only some application such as browser or microsoft words and similar apps are allowed. Before doing the force close, maplestory can give a warning message and give option to player to choose whether they want to close the other application or close maplestory. If it is the player decision to close the other application, maplestory will not break any rule since it is the player decision and under user permission. If they player doesn't want to close other application, then maplestory client will be force close. Those application will be targeted to most of hacking tools or botting tools. It is similar to windows where windows can force close other apps but with the user permission.

  • Increasing Exp Bonus on partying up

    This is what makes maplestory lost its originality, where people partying up together. Training/levelling together, having fun together while making their char stronger

    If you go to high level maps such as Vanishin Journey or Chuchu or even higher level map, not many people party up leveling/grinding anymore. Probably only 1% who actually doing it. It is because at higher level, classes gain better skills that can hit a lot more monsters in 1 go. In result it is very easy to clear up whole maps. In result, if they partying up with others, they will get less exp because they have to wait for the spawn time and have to share the exp with low exp bonus. That is why only 1% of the community partying up anymore once they reached especially 5th job.

    I know it looks like that giving 50% or more exp bonus seems a lot. But in actuality it not. It is too low so that the players are discouraged to partying up on grinding/levelling up. Facts tell that 99% of high level doesn't partying up. They try to get their own channel and solo. that Facts alone proves that your exp bonus upon partying up is too low. You can go to chuchu map on famous maps for grinding. you are lucky enough to see 2 players grinding together. Even 3 players to grind together in 1 map is nearly a myth. FInding 6 Players grinding/levelling together in 1 map? Are we dreaming? Pls call me hurry, we need to make it a history. oh there is possibility 2 players, but the other 1 is their kanna mule to just kishin the map. I don't count that as partying up.

    How to Reproduce :
    1. Play solo grinding on any map in chuchu island. Open up statistic so you can record the exp gain
    2. Levelling for 15 mins or more and write down the exp gain
    3. Gather 6 players. Also levelling /grinding for 15 mins or more. Also open up statistic so you can record your exp gain
    4. You will see a huge drop in exp you gain while partying up. Mostlikely around 70%-90% exp drop depends on party combination.

    My suggestion is for developers to find a way to encourage players to party and levelling up more. The originality on maplestory was that players are encouraged to party up and make friends. If you have a lot of friends, you get more benefit in playing the game. But right now, it is not. The more friends you have, the more they will bring you down, create disadvantage. You will get less exp if you levelling up together.

    You can increase the exp bonus upon partying up. To prove my opinion above, that exp is less with the more people you have in party, you can open up battle statistic and try to train/levelling solo in any of chuchu map/ lachlein/high level maps, lets say for 15 mins. Most players at chuchu map will have around 1.5mill damage range. So use a char with at least 1.5mill damage range clean. After that go with 6 players partying up/levelling on the same map. You will see soloing mostlikely give you 5x more exp compare than if you go with 6 players. When you partying up with 6 players in 1 map, your exp gain will drop by 90%. The disadvantages is so huge making players reject any party up offer. So my suggestion to increase the exp bonus especially if they party up with more players.

    Increase the amount of mobs in 1 map from lets say 40 monsters in 1 map to 500 monsters in 1 map. So that the map is enough for 4-6 players to train together. It is not like the old days, where best skills only hit up to 3 enemies. Nowadays, our skills hit like 15 or more enemies in a few seconds. But it is not currently possible to increase the number of monsters as it will crate a huge lag.

    Increase the mesos bonus. Even rare to see players partying up to mesos farming. It is because we don't get mesos bonus for partying up. It should be the same as exp, where people will get mesos bonus when they party up. Especially when they have 6 people in party which will give them huge mesos bonus.

    Increase drop rate bonus upon partying. When players partying up, give more bonus. And especially when they can get 6 players in team, they will get a lot more drop rate boost than with solo. Especially now that you have nodes for farming. Giving more drop rates on partying up will encourage more players to party up and socialising.

    If you want, you can also apply all of the reccomendations/suggestions above only on high level maps only like Vanishing Journey. Chuchu or higher level maps. it is because at 1st-3rd job, players doesn't really have skills that can clear 1 map very fast. So it is still okay. But on high levle maps, when skills hitting 15 monsters or more, and players can kill very fast, we absolutely need more boost on partying.

    In all, this suggestion is meant to encourage players to go out and makes friends. Playing with friends in game will make the game less boring. Because we interact with living people who can give different experriences and fun everytime we play the game. It is not similar to boss and npc who always doing the same thing again and again (BORING and REPETITIVE). Your actually great asset to keep your players to play is to encourage them to interact with other players. Grinding/levelling, Bossing, farming nodes and Arcane force is boring after some time because they are repetitive. But socialising, interactions, communicating with other players will never be boring, because they are living human being and not repetitive. That is actually your great asset which you have lost. As the more you encourage your player to play solo, you will see less and less customers/players quitting because of repetitive play. That is why actually interaftions with other players comes to play.

  • NODES drop was nerfed badly,IS THIS A JOKE?Or BUG?

    Before i can get around 10-15 nodes in 1 hour. Now after the update, i can only get 1-2 after 1 hour. Is this A joke? Or a bug? intended? You actually cutting down Nodes drop to 10% only compare to before? IS THIS A JOKE? REALLY? 1-2 NODES PERHOUR? With 180% drop gear and spider only 1-2nodes? Maybe it will take me 2 years before i can max all of the nodes.. Or maybe i should test it more. Is it just me? Or Nexon actually push us to quit this game and have a real life? FOR REAL? If you think drop potential gear ridiciously multiply the drop rate, why not just limit it to like 200% at max or 100%? Do you think it was not a pain in the ass to make my 180% drop gear?
