  • Transfer concerns from a fellow Jett

    The following will be a response to the recent memo which can be found here:

    https://maplestory.nexon.net/news/84342/maple-memo-jett-advancement-to-explorer-event-notice

    The context will be from the Reboot perspective as a liberated Jett above level 275, but as some restrictions seem to stem from the ability to trade in Regular servers they will also be mentioned to the best of my understanding. If you are interested, I invite you to read on.

    Firstly, I preface everything by saying that I understand that this approach of transferring equipment can be quite complex, and I do note the extent of the efforts put into the transfer so far, in particular with certain specific items. I also understand that Regular servers have a marketplace that needs to be upheld. Even so, I personally have concerns about items that will not be transferred over or have been neglected from the memo.

    What I am keen on is a transfer in good-faith for those who play Jett.

    1) Equipped item only restriction

    I believe this restriction has only been put into place to minimise the impact on the marketplace and to avoid abuse by players transferring gear in excess; those not intended to be used by the Jett being changed to an explorer. I see this point of view, and even see the point of view that Regular servers have the marketplace in order to mitigate losses to gear not transferred. Players can sell old gear and purchase similar ones of another stat if possible, at some loss or gain depending on the market less the cost of psok if necessary, for better or for worse. There are items which are fully untradable which cannot follow this option. Even with all of that, players are already planning on taking advantage of the transfer in seemingly unintended ways, such as making plans to change gear to an explorer then promptly move the gear to some other character they would prefer to play. Players with level 200 to 250 Jett mules will do this to further their main characters as well, particularly with accessories. Even further, there is already lots of chat about trying to abuse the transfer to reduce the cost of obtaining desirable potentials depending on if the items are equipped or not during the transfer. Unrelated to equipment, but people are talking about abusing the transfer for reducing required or generating nodestones as well. The key point here is that this event is going to be taken advantage of by individuals just by nature of it being an equipment exchange. See the following ticket shared on discord:

    What I also see is that Reboot gear is all untradable and this restriction does not make any sense in the context and spirit of the server, nor in the spirit of a good-faith equipment transfer for Jett players. A full inventory transfer makes sense for Reboot, but instead of being made whole in the equipment transfer, the Nexon team has decided only to provide the same transfer as Regular servers but without the benefit of the market to mitigate. I believe this is a mistake and should be reviewed again. Reboot can approach being made whole by transferring the full inventory without any apparent downsides. Will it mean a better transfer for Reboot than for Regular servers currently? Yes, and this goes without saying that I wish Regular servers had a better compensation as well, even if it needs to be different to address these servers’ unique concerns. I believe this is in the interest of fairness to Jett players specifically who intend to continue playing the transferred character, who this transfer is entirely for.

    I personally have 3 to 4 of each arcane item I have been collecting as drops for over a year now, perhaps two, with the intention of pushing 21 to 22 stars when ready (was not prepared this recent starforce event); as well as a full set of meso and drop gear, quite a few of the items having % dex potentials along with meso/drop:

    In reading the Q3 roadmap post, Aletai from Nexon ironically mentions the importance of these alternate pieces of gear on main characters:

    “v.244 - Spiegelmann and the Secret Ring Shop

    As many know, event rings play a huge role in MapleStory. Some players want meso and drop rings for their main characters while others want rings to gear up their mule characters.”

    https://maplestory.nexon.net/news/84418/updated-july-5-maple-memo-gms-roadmap-q3-2023

    With the current iteration of this transfer none of these will convert, and this is not a good-faith transfer in the context of Reboot.

    2) Unmentioned items

    In particular, the items not mentioned that are of key importance are:
    - Shields for explorer Mages and Shadower;
    - Cursed Spellbook, the pitched boss drop from Will;
    - Oz rings, specifically Weapon Jump S/D/I/L rings

    The key takeaway for the shield point is that on my explorer I/L and Shadower alts I opted to use cubes on shields. In the current state of equips, I would never choose to enhance their class-only equipment. My Jett’s secondary has a 30% att potential, and if Jett had a starforce-able shield option I never would have upgraded this class-only item. In a good-faith transfer I ought be afforded the option to transfer to a shield, especially considering the average resources required to acquire 3 lines of % att/magic att potentials (86,793,568,000 mesos in Reboot). I should not have to redo this if I choose a magician or Shadower because of a choice I could not make.

    I was lucky enough to have a cursed spellbook selector drop on my Hard Will liberation mission. I chose a green book as I wanted and still want to play Jett. Currently it is unclear in the memo if the base stats of the cursed green spellbook will be changed, resulting in a loss of 10 main stat if it does not convert properly. It sounds marginal, but I selected a green spellbook in the interest of Jett, and a good-faith transfer would convert the base stats or provide the correct coloured book to replace it.

    While I mention Oz rings, I do not currently have any on my Jett. This is for a good reason: These items can take an excessively long time with major effort to obtain in Reboot. Also even if they are transferred, by nature of being rings that are gear-swapped, these items may also force Jett players to make a decision due to the previous equipped-item restriction: Should someone take a chance and hope the valuable Oz ring converts properly while losing another star-able ring’s 3 line % dex potential? The player should not be punished for having earned certain dex-aligning Oz rings.

    3) Ability

    There was no mention of (inner) ability in the memo. I have been playing my Jett for years (created 06/01/2017) accumulating honor exp points. I have then spent said points earning my current ability, highly desirable for Jett:

    https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/747695037231661056/1126554842568069241/image.png

    In transferring to another class, other ability lines will become desirable and in many cases the 20% chance to skip cooldowns ability can even be relatively useless. I cannot imagine what players in Regular servers feel like who spent real money on circulators. Given the ability of Nexon to do an honor exp and maple point refund in good faith, I do not understand why it was not included in the transfer process. We know it is an option due to the ability and bonus stat generation compensation and memo:

    https://maplestory.nexon.net/news/65947/update-on-bonus-stat-generation-issue-compensation

    The Best Solution:

    Whatever the generic solution resolves as, I sincerely ask that the tickets with equipment and ability concerns be resolved adequately concerning items that are missed or unfairly converted, and that the support team is given the processes, tools, and training required to resolve them. Going forward this may be the only realistic option in resolving concerns, and is best done on a case-by-case basis. In this way teams at Nexon can better filter out bad actors and truly make us few invested Jett players whole again.

    In closing, I want to reiterate that creating a fair compensation package for the closing of a class is a challenging endeavour to be sure, and I believe the above concerns I have are valid and should be resolved for the transfer to be resolved… in good faith.

    I have shared this through multiple avenues. Thanks for reading and I hope that everyone remains open to discussing how to make Jett players whole through the transfer process.

  • [REBOOT] Symbol Drop Rate

    Arcane Force daily quests really should be completed once per day per world, and the AF rewarded should be awarded to the characters in that world who have completed the respective quest lines (thus having the required levels). This change would not be very difficult to implement, but would entirely remove the regret of switching characters from Arcane River. The only downside I would see is that the company has less "content" to hide behind.

    I understand that MMORPGs intend to recycle content and be a grind such that it spans a long time. I also feel that if I've done a quest for a year, it's more than done it's share of work (from the developer / company's perspective) and it should be time to move onto something else entirely.
