runs once a year. It was run earlier this year for a decent chunk of February and a few days in March. In a typical year, this upcoming event period wouldn't even be happening. This fact, that the event already ran its standard duration earlier in the year, was likely a point of consideration in the decision to run it for only one week now.
Think of it as a bonus. You're getting an extra week of the event from early this year. My guess is that, going forward, they'll hold off and run it as normal in its typical October slot.
You're forgetting that the reason it was run earlier this year is that it wasn't run at all in 2018. (less)
