  • Q&A Ft. MapleStory's Investigation and CS Team

Are there any sort of 'second chances' being implemented for those that have been temporarily banned/removed off rankings. I know MapleStory has done so in the past, even lifting the bans off of permanently banned players. I'm curious if anything like that is in the works, or could possibly be done for the future. I'm a firm believer that people can change, so a sort of appeals process for those that were temp banned/removed from rankings could be reinstated onto rankings seems fitting and fair to me.

I hope they never bring this back. Both times they have the majority of people who came back just went right back to hacking/botting. There's very few who actually change their ways.

    Hello,

    I have a few questions.

Why aren't hackers permanently banned on their first ban?
Being someone who has reported and gotten various hackers banned it always disheartens me when I see them back. These players know exactly what they are doing. You don't accidentally download and use hacks and they do the same thing when they are back or until they hit 250 in which they start doing it on a mule account.

Why do people who have been banned for botting/hacking get to keep all their "progress"?
The worst part about people coming back from a ban is that they lose nothing. This is why you have so many people who hack/bot and do not care because they know even if they get banned they'll still have everything after the ban. I know de-leveling players may cause issues but there has to be something else that can be done. People who bot or exploit should have all goods removed after their ban and more.

Why aren't shops in the free market investigated?
There are loads of shops that scream "hacker/botter". They are filled with elite boss items, legendary items and spell trace usually. A lot of these shops have been in business for years and are making thousands of dollars off your game. It wouldn't be hard to look into the shop owners and see what trades are being done to and from the player. You would get a large stream of accounts connected to it that are going to be hacking mule accounts and you'd also get the player's main.

Not 100% sure if these questions are relevant to these specific teams. If a description of what the Customer Support and Investigation Team do, what they're responsible for is added like Akradian has said I can modify or change based on relevancy.

  • Don't nerf the drop rate system like KMS did

The base nodestone drop rate is actually getting increased. The way drop rates in general stack up is what's getting changed. It actually balances out nodestone distribution somewhat among funded and unfunded players. Funded players with absurd amounts of drop rate stats on their gear will have a much harder time than before to gather nodestones while people who lack those resources will have an easier time getting nodestones. So in short, it slightly evens out the playing field. Although I don't see why it was necessary to change how drop rates stacked up in the first place because now it makes things even more confusing than before. Especially since it was never explained how it's going to be calculated now.

Increased, but the end result is still a nerf with how drop rate is calculated after the change. Punishing funded players for making good investments in drop gear isn't a good thing. When you spend billions to invest in drop gear you obviously want to see a return. The way drop rate works currently in our version is perfect and never needed changing. The way drop rate is going to work after the change is horrible.

This was also in the notes.

"For some items, quest items, and event items, drop rate increasing effects will now only be partially applied."

How horrible. So now quests, events and some other stuff will be taking a hit too.

It's not hard to get drop gear even as someone unfunded and you benefit nicely from it now. After the change....good luck.

  • Don't nerf the drop rate system like KMS did

Don't know why Nexon feels the need to change things that are already fine and never complained about...

  • Have people stopped caring?

Still loads of people who care. More than you think, but most aren't satisfied with what Nexon is doing to combat them.

While they obviously ban them the time it takes is far too long and the punishment is far too lenient. Sometimes they don't get them and they end up hitting 250 at which point they're pretty much untouchable unless they do something again. There's so many issues such as hackers/botters not getting a perm ban on the spot. Makes no sense as to why they shouldn't. Nexon used to perma ban hackers/botters but suddenly they believe they will come clean after their ban? Hackers and botters shouldn't get off this easy and it's one of the reasons why so many do it and continue to do it. Anouther issue is they keep everything they've gained after their ban period is over which is absurd. "Oh what's that? You botted to 250 and earned billions of meso? NP bro, you'll still have it all when you're unbanned."

I know there will probably be issues if they try to de-level players but there needs to be some additional form of punishment to deter rather than just having a time based punishment. Thankfully our previous CM was able to get the removal of ranks on a ban back in but that still doesn't stop the billions of meso these hackers earn especially if they're doing it on mule accounts. Which brings me to yet anouther issue. Seems to be incredibly hard to get GMs to investigate shops and link them to the multiple botter/hackers that are passing off goods. There's so many shops in the free market that I've seen in business for years now.

The question I often hear from these hackers and botters is "Well it doesn't affect you so why do you care?".

First, this is such a stupid question. Hacking/botting affects everyone in this game. Those 20-30mill nodestones?, those 15m slates? Yeah, they're that cheap only because of hacking/botting. You might think that's a good thing but it really isn't when it means the profits you make are also going to be far far lower. Next you have the issue with them taking maps (often fairly popular ones these days) which results in 1 less map to train on as well as a reduced burning field on that map when they finally decide to change channel to hack on anouther map. This is just the botting side of it too. Haven't even gone into the people who dupe and end up screwing people over because the duped items end up disappearing when Nexon finally decides to clean up. The list goes on.

    TLDR:

Whole situation is a mess. People do care but many are not satisfied with the actions taken by Nexon to combat and deter. Also the fact that they are too lenient towards them.
