Maplestory 2 is a completely different game, so it doesn't seem to have had much of an effect on the original Maplestory's activity level.

I despise whoever looked at that game and thought "hey let's call it maplestory 2, I'm sure no one would ever misconstrue that they're two different games and that one is in no way a sequel or prequel to one another". Some would actually argue that, of the two of them, ms2 is actually doing worse. Due, in no small part, to the fact that so much of gear progression is time-gated and heavily rng-based. As well as the meso costs for everything, and that mesos are incredibly difficult to come by for all but the most serious of players.

But no, they are two entirely different games that share absolutely no common traits outside of a few towns and monsters. Anyone who says otherwise is, to keep it short, wrong.

how come this thread its not removed/sinked ? tho it was only possible on reddit

Because, thus far, it's been actual civil discussion. And it's not declaring the game to be dead, it's asking if it's dying.

  • How often do new events come out?

I'm sure this doesn't answer your question the way you hoped to have it answered, but the typical progression seems to be that a new batch of events starts up after the end-date for anything currently ongoing hits.

Ex: the alliance coin shop and lunar new year events run until the 12th, at which time the utah's farm event will start. Once those start, whatever their end date is will likely be a new batch of events.

You're basically spot-on with "every couple weeks or once a month", just it depends on what the events actually are or what's coming in the near future. Some events end with a game update.

when is shop going to close? I see that we can still earn pts until 2/5 but some stuff in the shop will restock after 2/7? big confuse

Take this with as many grains of salt as you wish, but I'm assuming the maple world energy quest is gone as of the 5th and the shop remains until the 12th. This would fall in line with past major coin-shop events, where the means to acquire the currency for the shop is the first to go, and the shop itself remains available for another week or so to give everyone ample time to burn through whatever coins they have left.

It is the cancer that is killing this game.

What about the Frenzy Totem then?

The thing about Frenzy totem is that it's not gonna get abused like kishin is being abused. They're items worth over 2 grand USD. There won't be bunch of hackers with multiple accounts meso botting with frenzy totems. Not really comparable

You say that as if hackers didn't use packet injection to acquire the monolith skill(given by the frenzy totem) on reboot, a server that will never see a legitimate frenzy totem. Also you really shouldn't use the fact that some people buy and sell ingame items for real money(which is frowned upon in the terms of service and likely the forum rules as well) as a deciding factor in "this isn't as bad as that".
