  • What is ‘skin damage’?

It's "damage skin" and it's different graphics for the numbers that show up when you hit enemies.

Didn't we lose a CM over him giving a player an item?

    No.
    Where did you hear that?

Somewhere through the grape vine. I didn't look into it as I wasn't too heavy into MS at the time.
What I had heard was that KThxBaiNao was let go because he was restoring items for players, or for unbanning players he deemed not hacking, etc.
Basically something to do with overstepping his boundaries. As I said, didn't look into it.

KThxBaiNao didn't have a GM account, so he couldn't have done any of that even if he wanted to.
You might be misremembering a speculation of part of the community, that he was let go because he was meddling in Customer Service business by pushing them to investigate ban appeals, or because he was in general too much "on the players' side" (imagine that meme format of the guy being thrown out the window after making a not-cruel suggestion in a meeting).

At any rate, GMs do have the ability to create items and they do use that ability to recover or compensate players. For a recent example, see https://www.reddit.com/r/Maplestory/comments/c5xfqk/remember_when_i_said_i_accidentally_extracted_my/
I don't know why they chose not to recover OP's arcane symbol.

  • Bishop!

Of course it's possible to level to 275 as a Bishop. It takes longer than doing it as I/L, but since it's a long journey either way, it's better to do it with a class you enjoy playing.
As for getting stronger: Look up Reboot gear progression guides. Once you're 200 make sure to do your Arcane Symbol dailies diligently, and also work on your V Matrix.

  • Job advancement

You can find the quest description again either in your Quest window (default 'Q') or in the Maple Guide (default 'U').
