About Me
Queen of the Penguins. Previously EMS Forum Mod. RIP 14.5K Posts
  • I have nothing positive to say

It doesn't seem that way to me. Personally, I would have quit being a mod if it meant things staying the same despite my hard work writing daily reports and such. Or things getting shoved under the rug on a daily basis despite overwhelming popularity and demand from the community. Especially since I would gain 0 benefits from doing so.

The threads getting out of control is due to the lack of negligence Nexon has shown when it comes to communication and transparency. It's impossible to expect threads to maintain civil when we're always kept out of the loop and get the cold shoulder from Nexon. And while I agree that the mods surely do a lot for the community, it seems like

I was a mod because I loved the community and the game. I am kinda annoyed with myself that I didn't continue on when I was asked if I wanted to continue.
It's not an easy job and it's not exactly high paying (I got 40k NX not sure if volunteers here get anything).

I'm talking from a pure Maple EU perspective here, my community was a lot smaller and easier to handle, but even then passing on every single thing took time.
I got extremely lucky with my position and had close interaction with the devs on bug reports, a close relationship with our game masters but I was pretty much left to do it alone.
It's not easy replying to every single report, every suggestion, a lot of things you won't be likely to get feedback on.

However I really don't like the bug report section on this forum, this isn't a criticism of the mods, it's just super unorganised and who knows what has been reported. I think some improvements can definitely be done there.

Threads getting out of control is not just Nexons responsibility, it's the communitys as well. You won't know every single thing Nexon decides to do and mods won't be able to say much most likely cause of a NDA.

TL;DR: Mod is hard, better bug section pls, be nice.

  • Make some players into GMs

Why not just bring the EMS GM's back?

  • Pet skill gone.

    Thought it probably was.
If a mod wants more information on this please contact me as I did the original testing/reporting in EMS and I still have everything.

  • Volatile, Vulgar, Crass.

I was forum mod over in EMS for 5 years, I've been on both sides.
I've been complained at, insulted, sent threats, plus various other not so nice things.

I think that when people are unhappy they have a right to say that, but it should be done in a polite way.
You have no benefit from being rude to those trying to help you. This goes for both on the forums and through Customer Support.

However I also believe that when people are unhappy those that represent Nexon should be giving feedback. Now I know without a Community Manager that is probably not going to happen so much and honestly I don't exactly know what the Volunteers exact job is, as it seems a lot different from what I did.
When the community doesn't feel like it is being listened too that is when you get multiple topics about the same issues, because people want to be heard.

Yeah sometimes people don't understand who makes decisions, but that is just part of the job =/.
I would suggest maybe more volunteers for the forums, as I said before EMS forums closed I would be happy to help out, but again I'm not quite sure on their job exactly as it seems I had a fair bit more responsibility over in EMS as a forum mod.

  • Nexon is it so hard to ban hackers / spammers???

a single GM is no where near enough to cover the entire game world over 20 Channels, and they wont really be able to do much about all the hackers and botters anyway. i have once seen Nexon do Mass bans and it filled the chat box for like a good 30 mins. just hundreds of names over and over and over. it didn't really do much in the end(this was back when Scania and Bera were the only GMS servers).

it would be nice to see less bots and scammers. however, i know for a fact, there will always be thousands roaming around. hackers make money off of games like this, so they have no reason to stop, and they WILL find ways around any walls that get built to stop them.
Bans used to fill the chatbox? Wow that must have been annoying.

There will always be hackers but you can hit them hard by banning accounts. The serious ones will be using several accounts anyway to make the most profit, so even banning like 10 of their accounts will set them back a bit.
