Just because it's common sense to you doesn't make it common sense to everyone.
About Me
MapleStory enthusiast, Pre-BB player, and Dual Blade.
  • what IS cheating?

Full map attacking in one spot or one place kill along with botting/auto-macro and modified drop locations is considered cheating.

    ----

The Code of Conduct (Updated 19 October 2016) states that:

    C. Cheating
    - You will not exploit errors in design or features which are not documented and/or bugs to gain access that would otherwise not be available or to obtain any competitive advantage.

    - You will not modify the software made available to you, either as part of a game or an interactive service, to change the service. This includes, without limitation, creating cheats and/or hacks or using third-party software to access files we make available to you.

    ----

How cheating is done, vaguely explained due the limitations of the Forum Code of Conduct is by modifying the software either before, or during launch of the game.

How reports are handled is that it is sent to a Customer Support Representative, most likely a GM. The player is then investigated for further evidence of said actions and if caught they can face punishment such as a temporary or permanent ban.

    ----

Hacking detection is done by checking the processes running. I guess it's a less weaker version of an anti-virus because they do not scan your whole computer. This is explained under the End User License Agreement (Updated 22 December 2015):

    4. SERVICE

4.5.2 WHEN RUNNING, THE SOFTWWARE MAY MONITOR YOUR COMPUTER'S RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY (RAM) FOR UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAMS RUNNING CONCURRENTLY WITH THE GAME. AN "UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM" AS USED HEREIN SHALL BE DEFINED AS ANY THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE PROHIBITED BY SECTION 4.3ABOVE. IN THE EVENT THAT THE SOFTWARE DETECTS AN UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM, (a) THE SOFTWARE MAY COMMUNICATE INFORMATION BACK TO NEXON, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION YOUR ACCOUNT NAME, DETAILS ABOUT THE UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM DETECTED, AND THE TIME AND DATE; AND/OR (b) NEXON MAY EXERCISE ANY OR ALL OF ITS RIGHTS UNDER THIS AGREEMENT, WITH OR WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE TO THE USER. Additionally, certain Games may include a tool that will allow your computer system to forward information to Nexon in the event that the Game crashes, including system and driver data, and consent to Nexon being able to receive this data.

Most anti-viruses use a dictionary or patterns in order to find infected files. However if the virus is updated and the dictionary/patterns are not it won't be detected.

The same concept can be put into place for Hack-Shields/Anti-Hack Detection and Hacking Software/Third-Party Programs.

  • SS Ring available from V Coin Shop?

@Xionicomad, let me copy-paste my reply here from a different thread.

    http://forums.maplestory.nexon.net/discussion/comment/29887/#Comment_29887

Have you been to the bug report forums before? Have you seen the suggestions and feedback on them?

If communication is slim to none on the main portion of the forums, how would you expect any different on the bug reporting forums?

And before you say we should post a Suggestion thread, it's pretty much the same story as Bug Reporting. Without a Community Manager, which one has been recently been dismissed the only people who are here are the Volunteers who have very limited communication and little to no influence to getting things done.

The rules are there in place in order to stay tidy with things, it's meant to be more formal and organized. The fact that the Bug Reporting list has been abandoned more or less, Customer Support is still quite irony unreliable, and that list of Suggestions will now probably be shoved under the rug after our Community Manager was dismissed.

The General Forums brings the most awareness because it'll be the first place to look for players unlike Suggestions or Bug Reporting considering it's effectiveness.

It also doesn't invalidate any of the points made by people commenting. Your argument towards it not getting proper attention is flawed beyond from my experiences from posting in the past for several years.

EDIT: This issue is currently under investigation.

  • Nexon r you going to fix the Master SS ring ??

Also most of these "events" are not free at all. It requires an ambitious amount of time to put in. The Master Ring SS is no joke when RNG turns it's back on you.

  • SS Ring available from V Coin Shop?

@Biznitch Customer Support is just really inconsistent.

@PlasticHolly Since we're lacking a CM right now the only people who are viewing these threads are mainly Volunteers who have little to no power. At best they can forward things to Nexon America, but even so they have very limited communication or influence.

On the other hand, the remaining Nexon employees which I have major doubts that they're even lurking at this point in time given the evidence on a majority having limited knowledge.

If we have to do so much for something about Empty Jewel Rings, latency issues, abnormally disgusting 2x Event lag, absolutely random disconnects or client crashes that cannot be easily reproduced, and Dragon Rider Party Quest what about the lesser known bugs?

    - Certain Kannas/Hatayos not being able to do quests that normally everyone receives
    - Dozens of issues with The Afterlands which I've already hit a literal dead end on because I was unable to retrieve the next quest
    - Certain characters not being able to receive certain buffs from Shining Santa Boxes
    - Various entry or spawn issues for certain bosses such as Horntail and Zakum
    - Certain areas being inaccessible such as Ninja Castle without the use of a Hyper Teleport Rock
    - DEX Nebulite issues when placing it onto an Equipment results into a much lower stat
    - EXP loss at Gollux if you're not inside the 1st instance

I can bet that there is so much back-log of other bugs and issues that I may have forgotten or never even heard of.

It's no surprise at this point that a disaster this massive would happen during the big V Update. It's just a major disappointment that all of us current, returning, or even new players have to deal with such nonsense to actively push threads to the point there's a proper and accurate level of communication and that being fixed.

  • [LAG/STABILITY] Ongoing lag issues megathread!

its funny how you all are having lag while i am playing during 2x exp with minimal lag(only lag when there are to many drops on the screen)
so maybe its not the games foult but your potato cant take it (btw i play on a 3 year old laptop)

    P.S.
and just to be clear i expect lag becouse of latency(playing global from europe) but the lag isnt as bad compaired to before the last patch
Just because you do not experience it does not make everyone else invalid.

Not everyone will have the same result, like when Nexon is not able to reproduce the issue yet many players are reporting on it. If a player is able to play a different game with no latency/crash issues on a much higher graphic intensive game then that usually means it's something on Nexon's side and not the players.

A few players like myself who play from custom computers can easily say that we're definitely not running on a potato OS with potato specs.

There's probably something we players experience lag have something in common but I can bet it's not on our end for general specs or internet service provider, which will probably make it harder for Nexon to pinpoint because it may just be a case-to-case basis for each individual player.

I wouldn't expect a quick-fix so soon because of that.
