Maplestory 2 is a completely different game, so it doesn't seem to have had much of an effect on the original Maplestory's activity level.

I despise whoever looked at that game and thought "hey let's call it maplestory 2, I'm sure no one would ever misconstrue that they're two different games and that one is in no way a sequel or prequel to one another". Some would actually argue that, of the two of them, ms2 is actually doing worse. Due, in no small part, to the fact that so much of gear progression is time-gated and heavily rng-based. As well as the meso costs for everything, and that mesos are incredibly difficult to come by for all but the most serious of players.

But no, they are two entirely different games that share absolutely no common traits outside of a few towns and monsters. Anyone who says otherwise is, to keep it short, wrong.

  • Chief Stan's quest bugged (Evan Questline)

You know, I would be perfectly alright if they took a month or so of no events, no updates, just sit and prune the database of all of this duplicate garbage. Especially quest-specific things like this.

  • Please get rid of Kishin already

Kishin Shoukan as a spawnrate increaser is not the issue by itself. If Kishin Shoukan were the problem, Nexon would be threatening to get rid of Frenzy Totem as well.
The problem is coming from an artificial inflation of connected players due to the fact that every serious player is running two computers to train, one of which is a Kanna mule. 20% of connected characters at all times are Kannas.

The problem with this is that nexon's intention for Kishin could very well be to nerf it to JMS levels (which I suspect IS what they're going for)
If they end up doing this, it will make the problem even worse, because now there will be five kannas per map instead of one.

According to Dennis's memo post from a ways ago, the problem isn't kishin tself, but rather the fact that kishin is active in something like a hundred-plus maps on every single channel at once that's causing the problems.

I still believe that removing it outright is nothing more than a kneejerk reaction to a problem. And as we've seen in the past, all it's going to do is make bots shift to another class. It used to be demon slayers, then blaze wizards and now kannas and arks. If you take away one, they'll just move on to another.

  • is MapleStory dying?

the correct question is, "is Global Maplestory Dying" because in other regions, it's not. interest may be dwindling in gms but it doesn't mean it's dying.

The biggest issue is the number of worlds. Back when this game was more popular, they added worlds willy-nilly and, I guess, never accounted for a dip in popularity causing many of those worlds to slide off and become barren.

  • How often do new events come out?

I'm sure this doesn't answer your question the way you hoped to have it answered, but the typical progression seems to be that a new batch of events starts up after the end-date for anything currently ongoing hits.

Ex: the alliance coin shop and lunar new year events run until the 12th, at which time the utah's farm event will start. Once those start, whatever their end date is will likely be a new batch of events.

You're basically spot-on with "every couple weeks or once a month", just it depends on what the events actually are or what's coming in the near future. Some events end with a game update.
