  • Finish the "Active to Passive" Resolution

    In the Heroes of Maple update, one of the greatest skill change resolutions came to pass, the conversion of many active buffs into passive skills. This resolution reduced skill clutter on your keyboard and total time needed to recast your buffs. KMS had a second coming of this in the first patch after their BEYOND/Override update.

    Although this resolution greatly improved gameplay QoL, there's still a lot of active buffs as well as toggle skills Edit: You know what, I've decided to leave toggle skills alone. that could easily be converted into passive skills. However, there are principles for this resolution. These principles are: Must not be a party skill, a toggle skill, a skill with cooldown, a counterattack skill, a skill that enables a mobility skill to deal damage, a skill that provides infinite ammo, a Shadow Partner-type skill, an Enrage-type skill, a Hyper skill, or a 5th Job skill. Plus there are a few additional exceptions to this resolution. The following list shows all the possible candidates and their reasons for why.

    Common
    Weapon Booster skills - Almost all classes have a "Weapon Booster" skill, and the link below is the discussion on how it can be changed into a passive skill.

    So far, Bowmaster, Wind Archer, Wild Hunter, Phantom, and Xenon had their boosters changed to passives.

    F/P Archmage
    Elemental Decrease - The active effect gives the same stat you can get from your Insight trait.

    I/L Archmage
    Elemental Decrease - The active effect gives the same stat you can get from your Insight trait.

    Shadower
    Mesoguard - With Meso Mastery, Mesoguard's Meso consumption would hardly affect your Meso balance. At the very least, this should be a toggle.
    Shadower Instinct - This skill can be changed into a passive skill by having it act like Explorer Magicians' Arcane Aim.

    Dual Blade
    Self Haste - The only place where movement speed and jump boosts that are received from temporary skill buffs should be in is party buffs, which Self Haste certainly isn't.

    Buccaneer
    Crossbones - The active effect simply increases your damage.

    Corsair
    Jolly Roger - Most sources of Stance come from passive skills. In fact, Dawn Warrior's Soul Pledge, Dual Blade's Thorns, and Xenon's Offensive Matrix were all originally active self-buffs.

    Cannoneer
    Counter Crush - This is an inverted entry. Counter Crush should be converted into a Toggle Skill. Click here for more info.
    Pirate's Spirit - Most sources of Stance come from passive skills. In fact, Dawn Warrior's Soul Pledge, Dual Blade's Thorns, and Xenon's Offensive Matrix were all originally active self-buffs.

    Jett
    Bounty Chaser - The active effect simply increases your Critical Rate and your Weapon Attack.
    Slipstream Suit - The skill simply increases your DEX.
    High Gravity - Most sources of Stance come from passive skills. In fact, Dawn Warrior's Soul Pledge, Dual Blade's Thorns, and Xenon's Offensive Matrix were all originally active self-buffs.

    Blaze Wizard
    Ignition - The skill is basically Explorer Thieves' Venom that must be recast every 5 minutes. At the very least, this should be a toggle.

    Mihile
    Enduring Spirit - Demon Slayer's Black-Hearted Strength, originally an active self-buff, is solid evidence on why this skill should be converted into a passive skill.

    Aran
    Drain - When would you ever NOT turn this skill on?
    Snow Charge - I/L Archmage's Freezing Crush could justify on making Snow Charge passive.

    Evan
    Elemental Decrease - The active effect gives the same stat you can get from your Insight trait.
    Blessing of the Onyx - The skill simply increases your Magic Attack and your Defense.

    Mercedes
    Water Shield - Demon Slayer's Black-Hearted Strength, originally an active self-buff, is solid evidence on why this skill should be converted into a passive skill.
    Ancient Warding - When an active buff that gives max HP expires, any excess HP past your original max HP will be lost. By changing this skill into a passive skill, this frustration would be removed.

    Luminous
    Arcane Pitch - The active effect gives the same stat you can get from your Insight trait.

    Demon Avenger
    Ward Evil - Demon Slayer's Black-Hearted Strength, originally an active self-buff, is solid evidence on why this skill should be converted into a passive skill.
    Diabolic Recovery - When an active buff that gives max HP expires, any excess HP past your original max HP will be lost. Furthermore, it doesn't make sense that you have to keep this skill on to regenerate HP, when other classes that have HP regen acquire them from passive skills. By changing this skill into a passive skill, this frustration would be removed and the skill would be consistent with other HP regen passive skills.

    Xenon
    Circuit Surge - The skill simply increases your Weapon Attack.

    Kaiser
    Cursebite - Cursebite works similarly to Hero's Chance Attack, Mihile's Righteous Indignation, Demon Slayer's Insult to Injury, F/P Archmage's Burning Magic, and I/L Archmage's Storm Magic, all of which are passive skills. So Cursebite should be a passive skill as well.

    Angelic Buster
    Power Transfer - Turning Power Transfer into a passive skill can work out very well because it acts like Blaster's Blast Shield and Marksman's Aggressive Resistance.
    Iron Blossom - Most sources of Stance come from passive skills. In fact, Dawn Warrior's Soul Pledge, Dual Blade's Thorns, and Xenon's Offensive Matrix were all originally active self-buffs.
    Star Gazer - The skill simply increases your Critical Damage.

    Hayato
    Military Might - When an active buff that gives max HP/MP expires, any excess HP/MP past your original max HP/MP will be lost. By changing this skill into a passive skill, this frustration would be removed.

    Kinesis
    Psychic Armor - There's already a lot of Avoidability/Evasion effects granted from passive skills or skill effects.

  • Unmentioned Changes Checklist

    Another large GMS update, another chore of having to check all changes that weren't mentioned in the patch notes. Since the patch notes mention Story Mode Lucid being added, it is possible that some other changes from the Arcana portion of Beyond AKA Override are added as well. Some of the following changes may instead get added in the Venture portion of Override.

    Wonder Winter
    • Dream Breaker
    • 5th Job Advancement's Arcane Stone cooldown has been decreased from 8 hours to 4 hours.
    • Finishing 5th Job Advancement now rewards you 5 Nodestones. (For the first 2 months of this update, characters who have finished the 5th Job Advancement prior to Override must talk to the Record Keeper to receive the 5 Nodestones.)
    • Characters who are out of combat will now be excluded from the party experience bonus and distribution.
    • When you unequip any Angelic Blessing Ring or any Sylph Ring, the buff will now be instantly cancelled.
    • Monster Collection Exploration Changes
    • {Characters level 33 or lower will no longer be able to use the Exploration.
    • The time to get a Trifling Exploration Box is now 1 hour.
    • The Silver Potential Stamp from exploration boxes is now fully untradeable.
    • The "Start Exploring" confirmation pop-up now shows rewards.
    • Exploration boxes no longer give Mesos.
    • When you receive an exploration box, it now gets opened up preemptively.}
    • Skill Changes
    • In Reboot World, Nodestone drop rate has been increased and Fatigue limit has been increased from 200 to 300.
    • In Magatia, you no longer need to wear the Alcadno’s Cape/Zenumist’s Cape to accept certain quests, Homunsculo and D.Roy’s spawn rates have been increased, and when you complete all of the quests in Magatia, you will receive a medal.

    Evolve
    • In Lion King's Castle, certain quests' number of items required has been reduced, the drop rates of the required items have been increased, and the number of monsters summoned in certain maps in the Lion King’s Castle has been increased.
    • In Crimsonheart Castle, you can now proceed with later quests even if you do not complete the minigames, after completing the minigame related quests, you can now replay them once per day, and certain monsters have had their health and experience changed.
    • In Golden Temple, the starting level is now level 130, the area’s monsters’ stats have been adjusted to match the changed level, quest completion requirements and rewarded experience have been adjusted, and certain maps’ terrain have been changed and the number of summoned monsters has been increased.
    • The Monster Collection window can now only be opened after reaching level 10. However, you can still register monsters before that.
    • Skill Changes

    Union
    • In Kritias, the starting level is now 170 and the area’s quest monsters’ stats have been adjusted to match the changed level.
    • In Vanishing Journey, Extinction Zone's recommended Arcane Power is now 40, Cave of Repose's recommended Arcane Power is now 60, and all monsters' HP and experience have been decreased by 40%.
    • The Critical Rate and Critical Damage stats in the Character Stat window have received their own lines. In addition, Critical Damage now shows 2 decimals.
    • Skill Changes
    • {When you use Bat Swarm or Phalanx Charge, other characters will now be able to see if you switch directions.
    • Dark Knight’s Evil Eye will now teleport to you if your character moves a certain distance away while it is in Evil Eye of Domination state.
    • Bishops can now use Mana Overload while in the Righteously Indignant state.
    • Buccaneer’s Lord of the Deep‘s Energy consumption has been changed to only consume 150 Energy (30 Energy if fully charged) when it hits an enemy.}

    Arcana
    Mystical Forest Arcana will be added in the Venture portion of Override.
    • Fantasy Theme World has been updated.
    • A shortcut key and a help icon in the UI for Maple Union have been added.
    • Dream Breaker has been added to the Maple Guide.
    • During Omega Sector‘s infiltration mission, you will now be moved to the starting point instead of dying if you are seen by the camera.
    • Omega Sector’s boss OMNI-CLN will no longer be affected by knockback skills.
    • The 360 Arcane Power maps in Vanishing Journey have had their recommended Arcane Power decreased to 80 and the corresponding monsters’ stats have been decreased, while the 360 Arcane Power maps in both Chu Chu Island and Lachelein have been removed.

  • Undocumented Changes

    Although the Kerning City Superstars update is supposed to be based off of this patch, the update also implemented changes from these three patches. Basically, all the patches after the end of MapleStory V and before the prelude of MapleStory BEYOND.

    Here are all the undocumented changes:

    Skill Changes:
    Dark Knight's Spear of Darkness: attack speed has been increased, cooldown has been increased, damage has been decreased
    Night Lord’s Spread Throw: extra directional attacks’ ranges have been increased but their final damage will now be decreased by 20%.
    Night Walker's Shadow Spear: activation rate has been decreased
    Thunder Breaker's Gale/Typhoon: attack ranges have been adjusted
    Luminous’s Death Scythe: attack range changed from being centered on the screen to being centered on your character.
    Demon Avenger’s Overload Release: its UI can now be moved using the mouse.
    Wild Hunter's Jaguar Storm: you can now use Jaguar Storm once again after using it to resummon all the Jaguars to your current location
    Kaiser's Nova Guardians: you can now use Nova Guardians once again after using it to resummon all the Guardians to your current location

    Easy/Normal Von Leon will now drop Lion King’s Royal Medals instead of Lion King’s Medals.
    Lion King’s Medals no longer require Purification Totems to be changed to Lion King’s Royal Medals. When used, you can now trade 2 Lion King’s Medals for 1 Lion King’s Royal Medal.
    In all profession-related recipes, any required Lion King’s Medals/Purification Totems have been changed to Lion King’s Royal Medals.
    The [Von Leon] Knight’s Scroll quest can now be completed 2 times per day.

    After changing channels, you will now be invincible to attacks for 3 seconds. You can now change channels after being hit by a monster’s attack.

    A button that allows you to change your Quick Slots has been added to the Keyboard Settings menu. You can now change your Quick Slots through both the Options menu and the Keyboard Settings menu.

    The Reporting system has been reorganized.
    The Report UI has been changed to allow for easier reporting.
    ‘Gambling’ and ‘Illegal programs’ have been added as report reasons.
    Reports will now be able to include text from megaphones.
    The reporting fee has been removed.
    The daily limit for reporting has been changed to 10 per day.

    You can now purchase Accelerators from the NPCs Cute, Moody, and Patricia.

    The V Matrix’s Special Cores will now have an icon that shows that they are time-limited. You can hover over to read the tooltip to see the expiry date.

    Monster Collection has been improved.
    A notification sound will now play when you register a monster in your collection.
    A confirmation popup has been added when beginning an expedition.
    The expedition reward notification has been improved.
    You can now scroll through the collection pages using the mouse wheel.
    New monsters have been added to the Monster Collection.
    25 monsters from Tower of Oz (In the Near Victoria section)
    20 monsters from Minar Forest (Regular counterparts of Minar Forest's Star Force monsters and Stone Colossus's monsters)

    In the Arcane River continent’s hunting maps, flying monsters will now spawn in all hunting maps occasionally.

    When using Cubes, you will now see the damage range increase you will get from the new potential.

    The rewards that you can trade Cube Fragments for have been updated.

  • Let's see what the Patch Notes missed...

    Apparently the Limitless patch got a little ahead of themselves because in addition to implementing changes from this patch, excluding the 5th Job Advancement and the Arcane River, they also implemented changes from these two excluding their Arcane River areas.

    As a result, there are undocumented changes from the Chu Chu Island patch and the Lachelein patch as well as many changes from the Vanishing Journey patch that weren't mentioned.

    These changes include:

    Damage Range now caps at 100 million (Good luck with that), the detailed stats UI now shows your Damage stat and your Final Damage stat, and Final Damage now counts toward your Damage Range

    Status Resistance now reduces the duration of Abnormal Statuses received by a percentage and caps at 500

    Defense now caps at 100k

    Fighting monsters that are higher leveled than you will now induce a Final Damage penalty (2% per level in non-Reboot worlds, 10% per level starting at 10 levels higher than you in Reboot world)

    Level difference affecting your EXP gained has been modified (Bosses unaffected)

    Monsters can no longer dispel (i.e. remove your buffs)

    Certain enemy attacks no longer bypass invincibility skills

    Most monsters that were immune to binding skills are no longer immune to them, but monsters' resistance to binds after being binded now last longer

    Demon Avenger's HP gained from leveling up, advancing, investing AP, equipment, and Rage Within have been cut in half (percentage boosts are unaffected), but their primary stat now gives their damage range twice as much damage as before and their Hyper Potion Mastery's recovery multiplier has been decreased from x3 to x2, but it now applies to Elixirs and Power Elixirs

    Dawn Warrior has a new 4th job skill called Equinox Slash. When used, you attack and move forward a distance. Can only be used while in the air and while Equinox Cycle is active. Can be used while using other skills. Has a 6 second cooldown. This skill does not require SP and instead gets leveled up by leveling up Equinox Cycle. (This skill is a lot like Mercedes' Spirit Nimble Flight)
    Dawn Warrior's Styx Crossing's attack range has been increased, its cooldown has been decreased to 30 seconds, fully charges faster, you can now flash jump while charging without cancelling the charge, and the fully charged attack now ignores Damage Reflect
    Wind Archer's Monsoon's cooldown has been decreased to 30 seconds
    Mihile's Charging Light's debuff now lasts 10 seconds and its cooldown has been decreased to 20 seconds
    Aran's Polearm Booster's attack speed boost has been decreased to 2 stages (With this nerf, they might as well have to buff Blaze Wizard and Angelic Buster's weapon boosters from 1 stage to 2 stages)
    Aran's Drain's recovery amount has been decreased to 1% of your Max HP
    Aran's Cleaving Blows' damage boost has been decreased to 10%
    Phantom's Mille Aiguilles' number of hits has been increased to 3

    You can no longer equip multiple Tower of Oz rings and unequipping them will cancel their buffs

    Magnus and Arkarium no longer use party death counts and instead use individual death counts

    Chaos Root Abyss now has multiple channels

    The Monster Collection now includes monsters from the Arcane River along with a new Cube Chair reward
